I did some research earlier, and the gun is exactly the same as the Marlin Model 80. Its easier to find parts for the Marlin. New magazines are available for anywhere between $12 and $20.
I am also going to try a box of decent ammo, so I can see what she'll do with something other than Blazer and Winchester ammo.
Yeah, I got mine a long time ago with no magazine and ended up ordering one and that is when I found out it was basically a rebranded Marlin Model 80. Do you know the story of JC Higgins? It's actually pretty funny. Sears had an accountant named JC Higgins and they liked his name, so they had Marlin stamp the rifle as a JC Higgins / Sears and Roebuck.
When I found that out I thought it was pretty funny.
What's even funnier is that these were mail order items.....
Once source I found said that Higgins had no middle name, so Sears & Roebuck came up with the C in JC Higgins. I guess it sounded better for marketing. Looks like there was a line of JC Higgins products too (camping, etc)
