I happened across this on Nat Geo this morning while eating breakfast. This guy looks like the real deal, like Cody Lundin without the pretentious douchiness. Just watched one episode, but I'll be catching it on Netflix/Youtube.

I watched a marathon that they had on a couple weeks back. Really liked the show; he has some unique advice for survival in the woods (though to him it is living not surviving), and gives you a real life perspective on the encroachment of society on the untamed wild.

Plus I liked the back and forth you get between him and the camera crew, makes for some funny moments.

I saw the bit where he was skulking through the forest and stops, tells the crew to be quiet, and motions one over to him: "SHHHH....Come here! You smell that? *sniffs the air* I just took a piss right there" Laughed pretty hard at that.

GREAT show. Mick Dodge is is a bad ass dude. Most of the guys in his circle are former military. There's a guy called Moss Hopper that is a former Ranger and refuses to be on camera. I would love to just sit down and listen to the "off camera" stories that these guys must have!

Im actually pretty pumped to check this out. Theres not much I watch on TV but I do enjoy earthships and living off the land.

But he lives in a house, although he has no permanent residence. He works for a living, although he doesn't like to use currency.
Thanks. I thought he was a bit of a fake:

* never see him gather or cook a full meal.
* never see him in a camp that looks lived in.
* his clothes, hair and gear are way too clean.
* never see him with enough gear to live outdoors.
* never seen him in a tough spot, like spending the night sheltering in a cold heavy rain.
