I know most of you guys like your Ruger 10-22s but I'm thinking of a nice accurate, but not too expensive bolt action 22LR. I've heard that the Savage MKII BV with the Accu-Trigger is pretty good. I'm mostly in the check-em out stage right now and probably won't be buying 'til Spring and after my hip heals from the upcoming surgery.

The Mark II looks good. Anyone got some pros and cons on my choice?

Thanks for the help.

I have one and love it. Mine is the 22lr, thumbhole stock, bull barrel offering that I picked up at dicks for something like $250.

Thing is plenty accurate. Go for it, you won't be disappointed.

I have two of the Savage rimfires, a MkII and a 93R17. Both are excellent shooters, the accutrigger is quite nice. The BV stock is the one I wish I could get from Savage in left hand. The thumbhole stock on my MkII is excellent, but heavy. The stock on the 93 is one of the GV (GLV for me) series, and I couldn't stand it. The comb sloping down as it approached the receiver drove me nuts trying to line up my eye with the scope. I made a cheekrest for it, so the stock now works just like the BV you're looking at, and everything's great.

One of the extra magazines I bought for the MkII doesn't feed reliably - but I've done nothing to fix it yet. Might just need a cleaning and some lube, not a big concern. If you haven't been already, Rimfirecentral.com has a whole section on Savage rimfires. For the price, the Savage is a great deal - the CZ might be prettier, but it certainly costs more. The MkII certainly shoots well for me, especially for it's first trip out.

i bought my dad a Mark II without the accutrigger and its a fine shooter.

i myself have a CZ452 that i LOVE, and will definitely be buying another down the road

I picked up this MK II BTVLSS. Haven't shot it much yet but I like it so far.

I also have the MK II with accu trigger and thumbhole stock. I put a Leupold 6-18X scope on it. That sucker can drill a dime at 100 yards all day long. Fantastic rifle and a great value.

Thanks guys. That's a beautiful rifle there Knob Creek. That's a convincing group or reports on the Mark II. I was looking for some nice relaxing shooting out to 50-100 yards and with a 22 that won't break the bank.

I have one in .17hmr and while its fairly accurate, it can't touch my Ruger 10/22 with Butler Creek barrel, Choate dragunov style stock and Mueller APV scope.

I've owned 2 Savage 93s in .17hmr and neither one have been able to compete with a cheaply but well built 10/22.

My MKIIBVT does not disappoint for accuracy and the price was right. I have had it for over a year and w/ a bi-pod I can consistently nail "dum-dum" lollipops at 50 yards. It came w/ a 3x9 Tasco scope in the XP package at Dick's.
I am now considering getting another Savage thumbhole stock rifle this time chambered for 223 so I can compete in the 200 yd egg shoot at my club.

You guys convinced me. I got a BTVS 22LR. It has a Hawk Varmint II 6-24X44 scope on it with an adjustable objective lens so I can shoot parralax free at different ranges. Gotta wait for my new hip joint to settle down and then this baby will be shot a lot. I've got mucho 22 ammo laid in.

Try as many different types of .22lr as you can, especially Wolf! You'll be surprised at how well a certain type of ammo performs in that gun.

Thanks, Ray. I heard about the Wolf being great out of this rifle. It's hard to find though. I bought 5000 rounds of CCI SV in the group by that Cuda444 ran. I've got my fingers crossed that it will shoot decently.

I'm pretty sure Zero Hour still has Wolf bricks in stock. Its pricey ammo but its really worth it when you can nail .22lr shell casings at 100 yards relatively easy.[wink]
