Thinking of buying the JIC™ 500® Cruiser® kit

nice idea but shooting any shotgun with just the pistol grip totally blows. l bought a Mossberg home defense field combo that came with a pistol grip I shot 5 rounds of double oo buckshot and that was the end of that pistol grip

I'd go to HD, buy a 5ft length of 5" PVC. Buy two screw cover clean outs, one for each end and drop my 500 18" mossberg in there.

12ga pistol grip is a bear to fire.

I bought that exact same kit (black), and then bought a Choate folding stock assembly so I could shoot it without breaking my wrist!

I sold the whole rig to fund other projects, but it was a nice piece for home defense/ general fun at the range.

I will second this. I went so far as to show my son that I could fire it one-handed. Then the full stock went back on and the PG was lost to the bottom of my safe.

This. I converted my Mossberg Chainsaw into a nice HD shotgun with shoulder stock and removal of the shotgun grip. It still has the 3 rails which is great. But even with the chainsaw grip, it was a bitch to shoot. My dad shot it and the recoil knocked him in the mouth and almost broke a tooth. I thought it was funny until I saw blood streaming down his jaw.

I would do the same and use the PVC and clean outs valve. Great idea!

I'm in the market for a mossy 500 and I'm looking at the combo with the 18"/28" barrels. For ~$340 it seems to be a good deal to me. Comes with the pistol grip if you want to dick around with it..

I don't get what makes it a 'take-down' version. The barrel comes off by unscrewing the end of the magazine with your fingers.

It's a nice gun, and you can probably buy the standard plastic buttstock for like $15 if you don't like the PG.

I just picked up a Maverick 88 and will add a folding stock to it as a gun I can legally own almost anywhere and travel with. Total cost around 300

I've been looking at the same thing for when I eventually get a shotgun. For just about the same price you get a better deal. Get this and then pick up a backpack anywhere:

If you are actually going to use it "just in case" Seems like a great concept.. I have a mossberg 500 I love it a while back I bought a pistol grip for it to give it a try...(sh*t looks cool in the movies) And I tried it.... Then I gave it to my brother... But If it was going in a bugout kit or something like that I think it is a great option. Aside from that no get one with a stock...
