This isn't good news.

Most people will at least understand the justification of deadly force to protect themselves or their family.. but many don't for some reason

Lugnut,

From talking to the sheeple in this state, using the word MOST is a stretch...

Maybe you're right... but if you ask someone if they would take some else's life if it was required to live... I think many would. Until you mention firearms maybe. Certainly most would do what it takes to protect their kids/loved ones. It's basic logic to me... not even a second thought.

It is too bad no one on scene that night was legally carrying and was able to put an end to his shooting spree after the first couple of shots. Granted that is easier said than done against someone with a rifle and body armor. But nonetheless possible. Just once I'd like to see one of these situations end as it should - one guy starts shooting innocent people and one of those innocents with CCW ending it, saving countless other lives in the process.

Once again the overly-restrictive laws and the difficulty in obtaining a LTC ALP in this state may have aided in another shooting not being able to be diffused before police can make it to the scene. Similar to the Wakefield shooting where he killed 7 or 8 before turning on himself.

Of course the media would still construe this in a negative fashion. Painting society as the wild west, etc.

On a side note, it is truly sad that he did actually have a legal permit. This will certainly hurt us all. Of course, that doesn't permit him to carry an M16 into a public place. Firing it or not. Murder is murder and it doesn't matter if the person has an LTC, driver's license (if they used a car to run someone down), or is a licensed carpenter and used a hammer. None of it is relevant. But only a select few understand that.

The thing is, when entering into those debates, they'll always come up with a
cop out, like being able to use an improvised weapon, dialing 911, or some
other vastly inferior solution. (some would even suggest capitulating to
the demands of the invader, in the interest of trying to pacify) Then you back
them into a corner in about 2 seconds, and maybe make them think.

You'll either get a series of nonsense rebuttals "So and
so is a safe town, that'd never happen there." etc.

....or you will provoke thought. The latter is desired, but one cannot
stop people from being braindead, they have to come to that
conclusion themselves. Many can. Others cannot.

Every now and then I find people that are closer to the anti side of
the fence, and start parroting about "owning guns for hunting" and
the like, but to the majority of the antis, guns are completely
unacceptable. The ones that allow supposed "exceptions" just do
so for the sake of making peace with certain people they know. If you
call the "hunting is okay" types out on the carpet, they'll be the first
people saying guns should be banned, period. They just don't have
enough intestinal fortitude to say that. (They know they're raving
lunatics, so they buffer themselves in a lame effort to make them look
less like lunatics. )

I find the people that are "convertable" it's pretty easy to do
so. These people are the ones that are either against guns because of
some weird preconcieved notions, or more often than not, they simply
haven't thought about the subject very much, or hadn't realized the
utility of firearms. You get them thinking about the subject and then
their attitude starts to change, significantly. As I mentioned earlier,
many people who grewup without guns feel "alienated" from them,
so it's difficult for them to even grasp the concept of personal firearms
ownership.

Obviously for any of this to work you need a relatively rational person
to start with. Raving moonbats don't pan out too well, with the possible
exception of "real" liberals. Most of them are statist authoritarian
socialist a**h***s, though.

Maybe we should just let them ban all guns in this sorry ass excuse of a state. That way in ten years when the crime and murder rate hasn’t gone down they’ll be forced to admit that blaming an inanimate object isn’t the way to go. God I can’t wait to move out of this crap hole. I’m ashamed to say I grew up here. North Carolina here I come baby!

Dearheart - in this state, that will NEVER happen. Liberals would rather die than admit to being wrong.

If they think the police will always be there to protect them buy them a copy of dial 911 and die from JPFO. It is a book with actual cases in the US that shows the consequences for people that believed the police would save them.

Its no secret the mayor here in New Bedford is an ignorant jack ass. The last incident involving a police stand off here that ended in some looney getting shot by the cops wound up with Lang saying "no one should have this many knives" because they found a pocket knife collection with some 60+ knives that the guy had.
The fact that the shooter last night used what they consider an assault weapon in reality is moot. The bouncer I knew that threw him out days ago would still be dead today no matter if the shooter came in with a high capacity AR type rifle or Wal Mart shotgun. Point is he wanted to kill people and he did it.
Mayor Lang wanting semi automatic military style weapons out of the hands of civilians won't bring my friend back, and it won't stop the next crazy a**h*** from killing someone. Niether will tougher gun laws.

Just moments ago, on Channel Five News, the cow, Rondele Richards, made the statement during the story that if the AWB hadn't been allowed to expire, the murdering non-representative of responsible gun owners (my poetic license) wouldn't have been able to buy ammo for his "assault rifle".

No problem with you using poetic license... since the media has no problem doing it!

I just heard this as well. I'm confused. Was .223 ammo not available during the national AWB? I thought in MA the ban didn't sunset at all??? And it's legal to buy .223/AR15 ammo. I guess I shouldn't even bother asking... since the media is just clueless anyway.

She also said that the shooter "was wearing FULL body armor." I thought it was just a vest that he was wearing.

This is NOT GOOD with a new Governor and A.G. coming on this can bring on changes in purchase of ar's and ak's in the future.

Mayor Furious

Expect sales of "Evil Black Rifles" to soar in MA in the coming days/weeks.

This incident could very well be the straw that breaks the camels back for an even stricter MA AWB... [sad2]

New Bedford Shooter Owned Assault Weapons Legally
Mayor Furious
By Jim Boyd
Special Correspondent

[BOSTON -- The man who police said went on a shooting rampage at a New Bedford strip club early Tuesday was not doing anything illegal by possessing the high-powered guns he had, authorities said.

Scott C. Medeiros did nothing illegal in purchasing or possessing either the body armor or a powerful M-16 counterpart he had, according to authorities in his hometown.

Freetown Police Chief Carlton Abbott said Medeiros possessed proper, up-to-date firearms licenses. He said Medeiros has had Class A and Class B firearms licenses since 1991, which would allow him to “walk into any gun shop” and purchase an AR-15.

Abbott said when Medeiros applied for his gun licenses 15 years ago, he said was working as a route manager for a local business and was transporting large amounts of money. Abbott did not have specific information on the company. He said other than a few motor vehicle violations, Medeiros had no police record of any kind.

The chief said people who knew him described Medeiros "as an easy going person."

The mayor of New Bedford said he was outraged that the shooter had military-grade firepower.

Mayor Scott Lang said in a news conference Tuesday, “The idea that anybody is walking around in America with a weapon intended for the military is unrealistic.”

New Bedford police Capt. Richard Spirlet said the shooter walked into the Foxy Lady about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday wearing body armor and carrying with a high-powered rifle and a semiautomatic weapon.

One of the weapons was described as an AR-15 or M-16. The AR-15 is a semiautomatic weapon available to civilians. The M-16 is used by the military.

Lang said, “It doesn’t make sense. This will penetrate through anything.”

According to the Channel 7 news.. the perp had a relationship with the bartender that was also seeing the manager. The manager and bartender had a child together and the bartender recently broke off with the perp. [thinking] Crazy place New Bedford.

Anyway, the perp went to the place, got his ass handed to him by the manager and then came back with the can of shootass (he use to work security at the place, so knew the layout).

The perp killed the manager, another guy and wounded a third. Wounded two LEOs and then did himself.

According to the reporter, he had a license to "carry the weapon" and police were wondering why someone would want one. [rolleyes]

A bad day for us all.

Wait a sec....in MA the freeking ban HASN'T expired. WTF???? And what the hell does that have to do with ammo???

....I can't take this state anymore......I am so GD depressed that I can't get the hell out of here.

Shootings

Since the man was fully licensed and had no criminal record, can we not argue that this shows that even with "the best gun laws" in the nation, that the issue is with values, behavior, and respect for others? Ban AR-15 "style" guns, he would have used a semi-auto handgun. Ban those, he would have used a semi-auto shotgun, ban those, he would have used a sawed off double barrelled shotgun. Ban those, and he would have used a kitchen knife, ban those (see Great Britain), and he would have used his bare hands.

Murder is murder is murder. Its been around since Cain and Able.

I also find it highly ironic that the "community" is shocked, shocked, that such violence would happen at a strip club. Drunk men, women taking off their clothes at 2:30 am. Sorry, but I just don't get it.

Follow up

And by the way, I fully intend, even though I don't have the cash on hand (I'll use a credit card), to march down to my nearest "assault weapons" dealer, and purchase a Bushmaster competition rifle. I encourage all to do so. If you already have one, buy another. I am sick of folks blaming objects for the consequences of freedom and human nature.

You're afraid of penetrating ammo, Mr. Mayor?

Be thankful he wasn't shooting a lever action rifle chambered in .45-70.

Seriously, that guy would crap his pants if only he knew the kind of firepower that John Kerry-approved guns are capable of cranking out.

So maybe this week isnt a good week for me to walk into my local CLEO's office and ask to SBR these horribly non-pc preban carbines then???????

according to the scanner and the MSP SPEC OPS channel he was shot by police, not by himself, makes sense, someone with body armor and a helmet doesnt intend to take his own life without a fight. anyone else listen to the shootout?

News clip I just listened to said although there have been violent firearm crimes in New Bedford... this is the first with a licensed person. Not sure if this is true but it's clear what the mayor wants now. Barrios is at it already as well....

I'm pissed at what this dickhead did! People dead for no good reason and it will have a bad impact on us all.

Did you notice how one individual said that people don't hunt with AK's or AR's. The second amendment was not written with hunters in mind! I also noticed how one sided the news report was. They don't even allow a fair and bias report on the issue. Why the hell wasn't anyone from GOAL on the tube? What the hell am I sending checks out for?

Well... I guess it would make sense that they would slant things in their favor after this horrible crime. They are being opportunistic. We never will get an unbiased view on guns from the media around here.

What is bad though is I'm sure there are gun owners that don't like AR type guns.... a guy at my club gave me a disgusted look when I brought mine to the range this past summer.

Fair and UNbiased reports do not go hand in hand with gun related stories in this state, or had you not realized that luv? GOAL may well have issued a statement, however, (and not to sound icky) the blood hasn't dried yet from the shooting. You don't honestly think that the major media outlets are going to air something from a pro-gun group, do you?

If that Jack Hole used a slug gun those cops would be dead and the media would have said nothing about an "Evil Slug Gun".
