I know it's illegal to have a threaded barrel on an "assault rifle" in mA but what is the ruling on a handgun?

I don't want to run a can or anything it's just that sometimes I see good deals on aftermarket barrels that are threaded and capped.
It's not worth dancing on the edge of the law to save $50.
Thinking I know the answer but figured I'd ask......

Not a problem until/unless your handgun triggers the AWB garbage and most common handguns don't fall into that category.

Yeah I was curious to know about this as well. I was at the range this past weekend and this guy I know had a Glock with a threaded barrel. I know he has a MGL but I'm pretty sure that doesn't matter. I didn't ask him about it.

Good idea. Don't be a range Nazi, even if you think something IS illegal.

I noticed it was capped. Although I'm not sure if it was permanent or just protecting the threads.

Yeah I'm definitely not a range nazi lol. Luckily I've only encountered a few range nazis at my club over the years.

He's got a lot of cool and expensive/rare guns that he brings to the range. I wouldn't care if it was illegal or not but was just curious to know when I saw this thread.

Just for your reference, here is the definition of what makes a pistol an "Assault Weapon":

a semiautomatic pistol that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least 2 of--

(i) an ammunition magazine that attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip;
(ii) a threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor, forward handgrip,
or silencer;
(iii) a shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel and that permits
the shooter to hold the firearm with the nontrigger hand without being burned;
(iv) a manufactured weight of 50 ounces or more when the pistol is unloaded; and
(v) a semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm

As you can see, a threaded barrel is on the list of "evil features", but since there needs to be at least two of them to trigger the AW designation, just having the threaded barrel is fine.

First time i was handed a pistol with a threaded barrel was at GFA in Natick, i was like, hmmm, if they're handing this to me i guess it's ok to buy. I wish i had.
