OK this is one for the experts out there, I have a Colt Combat Elite that over the last 20 years I have fired countless thousands of rounds through. Most of these were shooting bullseye competition. In that time I don't recall one malfunction that has not been traced to an ammunition issue. So now I decide I am going to try IDPA so I purchased 3 8 round Chip McCormack mags. The mags all work fine except once the last round is chambered and the mag empty the trigger locks up like the safety is engaged. If I drop the mag the trigger is fine. Same issue if I try to dry fire with an empty mag...Ok anyone ever seen this before?

No changes to the gun which works fine with all my colt 7 round mags and like I said has for the last 20 years or so...

Nope thought that as well first thing I checked. It works fine as long as there is a round in the mag once the mag empties even though the last round is in the chamber locked up...strangest thing I have seen makes no sense..I put a standard colt 7 round mag in no problem...

I think you are right this thing has always worked with any mag. I just thought after all the good reviews on the Chip McCaormack ones I would splurge...

This is confusing. I believe that Chip McCormick uses Metal Form mag tubes. Metal Form makes mags (or at least mag tubes) for Colt. The McCormick mags should work. This is a wild guess, but I think the problem involves the grip safety.

What kind of trigger? Is it stock or one with a pre travel tab and or overtravel screw?
