Montana and Utah added this week..... Constitutional carry - Wikipedia

Montana and Utah Enact GOA-supported Constitutional Carry

Gun Owners of America applauds Montana Governor Greg Gianforte (R) for signing Constitutional Carry into law today.
“Governor Gianforte is a true friend of Montana gun owners,” said GOA Senior Vice President Erich Pratt in a news release.
“The previous governor Steve Bullock kept vetoing legislation to expand permitless carry to the entire state. But with Gianforte, we now have a true Second Amendment champion sitting at the governor’s desk,” Pratt said.
Montana becomes the second state within the past week to join the Constitutional Carry club. Utah Governor Spencer Cox (R) signed GOA-endorsed Constitutional Carry on Friday.
GOA members in each state lobbied their state legislators on behalf of these bills -- which, in each case, allow law-abiding citizens to carry firearms without first getting permission.
By signing permitless carry into law, Governors Cox and Gianforte bring the total number of Constitutional Carry states to 18. The full list can be seen here.
GOA encourages residents of Montana and Utah to use GOA’s prewritten letters to thank Governors Gianforte and Cox.
And as always, don't forget that to renew your GOA membership or to join for the first time, you can simply click here to do so.

34 states needed for an amendment
18 constitutional carry states makes it very hard to push for 2a changes (assuming SCOTUS wakes up and finds a backbone)

These states understand that the existence of a license is very important for reciprocity when their citizens travel - I doubt you will see licenses go away.

Trying again for constitutional carry in Alabama. Apparently licensing is legacy from earlier civil rights battles when the authorities wanted to know who might be carrying a firearm in a car. (Open carry is legal without a licnese but not in a car.) Now, it is a blatent attempt to preserve licnesing fees which stay with the licensing county. It only takes 5 min to get a license.

Alabama bill intended to block new federal gun control laws

The text of HB157 is attached for the legal eagles. Alabama HB157 | 2021 | Regular Session

Of course the NRA is pushing a bill that would retain permits albiet lifetime. AB477, Alabama HB477 | 2021 | Regular Session

If they enact constitutional carry they can just assume everyone is carrying in a car. Takes all the guesswork out of the equation and simplifies things.

in Alabama it’s definitely about the money. A few years ago when it failed, all the opposition was from sheriff’s who didn’t want to lose the license fees.

Damn. This could truly turn into the haves and have-nots. Nearing the halfway point. And a pile of Red states that haven't turned over are likely to do so. We'll be left with MA/RI/CT/NY/NJ/MD/DE, maybe VA, maybe PA, CA/WA/OR and then IL.

I can respect this for its honesty.

It's when they throw lies, damn lies and statistics to back up their care for the children and safety that I get annoyed.

Ohio is about to do it (senate and house bills need to reconcile before going to gov) and PA's legislature actually very recently passed it so the next time PA has an R gov while also having an R legislature I'd expect PA to do it.

Mass will be next for sure...........

Even if SCOTUS stated that constitutional carry is an absolute right and cannot be questioned, Herr Healey would instruct the state to ignore SCOTUS. That's the way the left operates. They are the ones who have no respect for institutions of government unless it benefits them personally.
