OFFICAL M&P 15-22 "FONDLE" REPORT"

preface:

the whole "it functions like an AR" is not totally accurate.

the bolt is a shorter throw because it does NOT have a buffer tube and spring. it's blocked off.

it's pretty much ALL polymer, so it's really light. i like the feel.

the butt-stock IS collapsable, but pinned at the maximum length.

i'm already war-gaming a pin extraction and re-pin at a "FULL" collapse.

so other than that, it's tits. the sights are removable, so i'm actually toying with yet, ANOTHER build.... sights come on & off as needed, and i can mount a Millet DMS or similar "low power" optic with a LaRue / quick detach mount or knock off... not like recoil will matter for a .22LR

but for now, she will be "as is"... depending on how she groups @ 100 yards w / CCI ammo

fondle:

M&P15-22 on top, my "I Am Legend Zombie Killer" in the middle, my Stag Lower w/ model 1 buttstock on bottom

notice, that the "teeth" on the bottom rail of the 15-22 have a wide gap towards the mag well, so i couldn't mount my ghetto grip for a jr. I Am Legend Zombie Killer

IMG_0106.jpg

M&P15-22 sporting the aimpoint, doing a test fit [laugh], now i really want an M&P15 FT. -at least an upper.

IMG_0105.jpg

the pin diameter and OAL between the rear and front detent pins are slightly off-set. add that the 15-22 bolt will NOT align with the butt-stock at all, unless you remove the buffer tube and spring

IMG_0103.jpg

M&P 15-22, don't mind my mess... we've been "tiding up" all week.

IMG_0102.jpg

notice the tension pin.... i just need to extract it or drill it out, so that i can properly re-pin the stock at a shorter length

IMG_0101.jpg

notice the "butt stock" is "solid"... no buffer tube or spring

Bonus:

the IALZK

so, in all... Smith and Wesson did a GREAT job with their replication of the M&P15T or FT, aka "fixed tactical".... but they made sure that you could NOT alter these rifles to interchange with a standard A-15 platform.

IMO - i don't blame them, they priced the whole thing for the same price as a .22LR upper.

[cheers]

range report will follow

My buddy brought his to the range the other day. The first day he got it, he knocked that pin right out, calls me up bragging about how it was an adjustable stock with a simple roll pin.

When he showed up to the range he was sporting a Magpul CTR stock and EOTech 512.... just doubled the price of the gun, and then some with two accessories. LOL

Let me now when you figure our a re-pinning method! I shot mine for the first time on Presidents day, very disappointed with the trigger...

- Take out current roll pin
- position stock where you want it
- use exsisting hole in the stock as the "template" to drill a new hole in tube
- reinstall pin in new spot

Did you point out that he's now in violation of the MA "Assault Weapons" Ban?

can we bring them to an appleseed????

anywho, using your logic, an "accident" at the range is grounds for immediate arrest. right?

a big ol' scary "assult rifle" was born due to spotty craftmanship *or* a lawful gun owner makes an attemp to correct the issue...

[hmmm]

I've been thinking about picking one of these up. It's either this, or a 10/22 modified to feel like an M1 Carbine. I think the 15-22 is more practical.

I think the 22 LR uppers on the market today are more expensive than the S&W. I know that a couple of the less expensive uppers; DPMS and V 22 are no longer in production. I paid $580 for my Model 1 22 LR upper. I am impressed with this 22 and love the fact that it will accept after market parts like triggers, and that the mags are only $19.95. I was afraid that S&W would really gouge on the mag prices as they have a captive audience. Looks like you have a winner!

I fondled one at Four Seasons. Didn't do anything for me. Something about the plastic feel to it. felt like a BB gun.
So I bought a Detroit PD glock 22 instead. [smile]

Where do you get your extra mags? I have seen them for $25, but no pinned mags at all.
Thanks!

The CTR stock is pinned.
Ah. I either missed that or it wasn't mentioned.

Kind of defeats the purpose of the aftermarket stock, though. Since I need a somewhat shorter length of pull myself, I really hate the MA AWB and would like to be able to put collapsible stocks on my ARs, too. Obviously, they're making MA safe from short shooters. [rolleyes]

can we bring them to an appleseed????
Sure! Why not? They look like an excellent rifle and I've only heard good things about them. (I've seen them but not shot one).

I was more concerned that someone was spreading it around on the 'net that someone was violating that stupid AWB if they put a non-pinned stock on - not the sort of thing that needs publicity, especially if there's someone reading this who feels like tracking his buddy down to grab some headlines. Personally, I could care less - that's one law that desperately needs to be repealed.

gotcha. [wink]

while i do plan on unpinning and re-pining the stock immediatley, i don't think SWAT will kick in my door during the process. [laugh]

Thanks!

S&W M&P 15 22 25 round mags are available from Midway for $17.99, but are currently out of stock. This is an indication that the mags will be reasonably priced when and where available.

took it out to the 100 yard range today.

Iron Sights:

I'll play more at 25 / 50 yards next time. but I like it!

used CCI mini-mags [smile]

i zeroed it (roughly), but i'm impressed either way.
edit: first three shot groups were aiming center mass and adjusting the front sight post. no windage adjustment were made.
