I have a BushMaster XM-15 carbine (MA AWB complient). Aside from a Houge pistol grip, it is pretty much factory stock. I want to get some functional upgrades to it. I just ordered the Magpul enhanced trigger guard.

I'm thinking I want to add a new sling, quad-rail hand guard, foreword pistol grip, etc. For those items, I'm pretty sure I know what I want to get.

What I don't know yet is what to do on the inside. Things like extractor, gas piston, ejection port cover, springs, buffers, etc. I know you guys will have some good opinions. Eventually, I will want to build one from scratch, but am willing to do my learning on the one I already own. Thanks.

For the most part the internals are fine. You might want a different trigger but that's a personal preference.

I would recommend a dfender dlink for your extractor. It makes all the brass go to one place on the ground and aids in extraction. I'm not a huge fan of gas piston in the AR platform since it was designed as a direct gas system. I'm not opposed to it but I think that money is better spent elsewhere. Springs in the lower shouldn't need to be replaced unless the buffer spring is really old and i'd leave the buffer alone unless you're running a SBR or have gas port erosion.

I think if you're looking for a internal improvement, you could buy a BCM M-16 FA Bolt Carrier Group, (yes it's legal)...The BCM is USGI milspec, MP tested and properly staked. The nice thing about it, is that with your stock Bushmaster BCG, you have a spare...Click on my sig if you want to shop for some neat accessories for your AR and if you want to see more about the BCG, go to
