I recently bought the Model 10 with a 4" barrel. It looks in fairly good shape 85-90%.
Being an all steel frame I fired about 24 rounds thru it with +P CCI ammo. After the last six rounds I couldn't open the cylinder. Later at home I final got the cylinder to open after a little effort. I then opened and closed the cylinder a few more times with effort. Finally now the gun appears to work correctly. The cylinder opens/closes with no effort. Do I need to do some cleaning or perhaps I shouldn't be using the +P ammo? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Tom

If the S&W does not have a bull barrel,I would not give it a steady diet of +P ammo better yet if it was an old pin barrel I would not use +P at all. That is why they came out with the bull barrel to handle higher presure loads.

When I owned my 19-4, pinned and recessed, I e-mailed S&W about using +P. They said no problem. Damn I want it back.[sad]

I had a Ruger Security Six that I had a session where I ran about 50 or 60 near max 125gr HP handloads. The Cylinder would not open towards the end. Once it cooled down it was fine again.

No matter what the configuration, +P loads are fine in the model 10 as stated by Mark056, after 1958.

If you want the gun checked over and are near SE MA, send me an e mail.
