UTAH CCW

I might be interested as well. I've got MA, FL, CT, NH, ME. One more can't hurt (except I might need a bigger wallet...)

Personal Security Institute

You can also consider PSI and John Peterson. He is in NH and has regular classes scheduled all over the US. KenK helped get him to Riverside this past year, and hopes to get him back again next summer.

His web page doesn't seem to work for me tonight, but it is. www.personalsecurityinstitute.com

But, his number is 603-512-6424. All of his pistol classes "come with" a signed UT instructor form to send to Utah. Regardless of the UT CCW, I would recomend John's classes to anyone and everyone. He is a very good instructor and he really knows his stuff. Read the reviews of his classes on this forum.

FYI- I got my application returned last month, simply because I used my local Police's version of the fingerprint card. Utah told me that they ONLY accept the blue FBI "official" fingerprint card. They sent me the blue cards with my returned appl. I just sent back the appl with the blue card and all is well.

John's web site hasn't been working for about a year now. His old host folded and skipped with the money. I've got the new site ready to go as soon as John gets me the necessary registration info to point the URL to the new location. Been waiting for a while. :(

One is left to wonder why this is so difficult for John. People get thier sites hosted every day, and most of those that do are not nearly as clever as John or those whom he employs.

Oh, it's hosted, Darius. It's just that the old address is still registered. I'f it was too easy to reassign a domain name to a new host, northeastshooters.com would have been moved to some porn site or off-shore casino long ago. As I said, as soon as John gets me the info, it will be up and running. (Actualy, it already is, but at a different URL; John made me promise to kill anyone who got the address. I could PM it to you if you'd like. [wink] )

Ken,

I may have put it inartfully, but I think you know what I was trying to say. When you have a traveling road show kind of gun school, having an Internet presence is, I think, critical to making it easy for prospective students to find you and see when your courses are available.

It is not rocket science to put a site up on the web. Unless I am missing something big, it shouldn't take a year or more to do.

If I am wide of the mark, I am sure you will let me know pronto!

I'm going to throw in some generic info about websites and registration. I do NOT know if this is applicable in John's case, but it does sound that way.

Whoever registers the website with InterNIC or their competitors give "owner info". It is fairly common practice for a webmaster/web design outfit/ISP to register their clients sites with them as the "Owner".

To try to prevent hi-jacking of websites, InterNIC and others will NOT move a website, change the owner, change hosting companies for a given domain until they get permission from whoever is listed as the owner.

Thus, if the "owner" skipped town with the money, the "rightful owners" are screwed on getting control of their own websites until/unless the person who skipped town gives "permission" . . . something that is highly unlikely.

This could easily take a year or more. Only alternative might be taking the registration company to court and having a judge order them to release the domain to the "rightful owner".

PSI

"personalsecurityinstitute.com" is registered to "DomainsByProxy" which means that *someone* paid a few dollars extra to hide the actual owner.

Problem is if you register it to yourself, your full name, home address (assuming you aren't operating out of a commercial building), phone number, etc. is PUBLIC info on the web for all the spam/porn-bots to grab and send you endless streams of junk Email (and perhaps hardcopy USMail as well)!

That's why I have no domains registered to me personally and use domain space provided by a good friend.

www.godaddy.com offers private registrations for $8.95 extra per year (free if you register 3 or more domains). This results in an intermediaty being listed on the web address, however, you still have ownership and direct control of the domain name.
