Start here and go forward. It's a strip called "User Friendly" and one of the characters has some very interesting conversations with a vet and the son of a vet.
It appears to me that the cartoonist may be Canadian. See:
And it also appears to me that Canada does allow women to be in the artillery:
We opened all occupations to women in 1989 and throughout the 90's encouraged women to join the combat arms. The introduction of women to the combat arms increases our potential recruiting pool by about 100 per cent. It also provides for opportunities for all persons to serve their country to the best of their abilities.
if its canadian army its a whole different story. i think the only position in their entire military that doesnt allow women are submarine crews. they do allow women in infantry.
about the combat medic thing in bosnia, there werent to many NATO deaths. i cant find any numbers on it. i know some canadians died but i dont know how where or what their positions were.
i take the comment back about the cartoon, i know little to nothing about their army and their KIA's.
Doesn't really matter if it's the Canadian Army or the American Army, does it now? They still wrote a blank check, payable to their country, that says for an amount of "up to, and including" their life.
