I was watching my friend shoot his 22. It had issues from the start. He was blameing the ammo. One thing I did notice is the hammer almost seemed to fall in a delay motion or slowmotion? Any common issues with these guns. He is dropping off tonight for me to look at. I do not know how well he has kept this gun or how many rounds. He was useing CCI stingers????

I bought a brand new one in April and have put 600+ rounds through it. I use the CCI mini-mag HP's with maybe 1/50 jamming early on. I tried other stuff like Federal American Eagle and Remington Bulk and the gun HATES them, 2/10 jamming.

I polished the feed ramp, the gun wore in a little, and I am sticking with the mini-mags. I have not had a problem in the last 400+ rounds.

I've never owned one, but a friend bought one brand new. He couldn't get it to feed reliably with any type of ammo, so sold it back to the dealer at a loss.

I think if he had been patient, broke it in with a brick or two of ammo, and then only used high-velocity copper-coated rounds, he would've been ok. [thinking]

I've heard many stories of problems with the P22. But keep at it, wear those springs in, figure out what ammo it likes the best and you'll get there eventually.

lots of issues...
Mine seems to tollerate the cheap federal jacketed ammo like they sell in wally world in bulk packs.

It is kinda cool.. but not a target gun.. If I could do it over again, I'd buy something else..

I own one and hate it for two reasons.

1.) I cant shoot it. It just doesnt work with me. My wife shoots it really well.

2.) It wont feed right.... that is until I started buying CCI Minimags Round nose or HP's. Now it feeds well.

Anything else and it doesnt feed.

A friend at work told me that deburring the inside of the top of mag helps too, as sometimes this is sharp.

There are fairly simply fixes for the P22's FTfeed issues. ive noticed 90%+ of the problem is the slide failing to go all the way back. if you look carefully, you notice that the hammer is cast (not machined). there's also about a ~.020" lip on the breech block on the slide. with a little bit of time with a piece of emery paper, you can eliminate this obstruction, and let the slide work more freely.

my p22 still jams....but its more like 1 in 50-60 using winchester wildcat / remington thunderbolt / federal bulk pack.

mine runs about 99 percent the last time I shot it a put a 550 round box of golden bullets threw it and it jamned about 5 or 6 times but is also well worn in

I have a love/hate realationship with my wifes P22.

What I love about the P22: fun to shoot, interchangeable backstrap, the smaller size so new shooters can handle it with ease.

What I hate about the P22: jams with many types of ammo if no mods are done, the need to mod the gun to fire any ammo type other than mini mags,
not that accurate.

If I were to do it all over again I would've passed on buying one and found a S&W 22A or 41, or a used Buckmark.

This is just my .02 cents on it all.

I've had 2 fail to extract and 1 fail to fire with yellowjackets in the first two magazines i fired. since then, in about 1700 rounds, I have not had a problem with the gun. I use the bricks of super x I get at dicks.

I just shot 100 rounds of cci standard velocity non-jacketed .22 through the gun. no problems. I probably put 500 more rounds through it since yesterday after I last posted, and hadn't cleaned it (i'm religious about it, but wanted to see what effect it might have). It still hasn't FTF or FTE since the first time I shot it. anyone else NOT have a problem with their P22?

My married daughter, wife and I have thousands of rounds through two P22s (neither more than two years old), and have had no problems.

Older versions of the P22 and older mags can be problematic, but our experience is that new product is just fine.

Virtually all P22s will have problems with anything but high velocity ammo.

We use CCI Mini-Mags exclusively and are 'hiccup free'.

I only started having problems with mine when the magazines were starting to get gritty from all the brass filings left behind from the bulk pack ammo. I tore the mags apart, cleaned everything, lubed it up and its back eating Fed. bulk packs perfectly again.

I feel that mags are all too often overlooked in the cleaning process.

up date, really did not find much of anything. I do not think he cleaned the gun when purchased or has been useing WD 40 or something. Had a waxy heavy scum on some parts. The mags where dirty from floating around his range bag, lint sad, ect ect.
There was also a gunky build up in the recoil spring.

What I did Hot soapy water( dish soap) small brushes. Just cleaned the crap out of it.
2 scrub sessions.

Mind you the hammer was still falling slow. What I did not notice at the range or until I finished cleaning a lube. The hammer seemed to be in a half cocked mode? After clean and lube the hammer would set further back and had a noticable fast hard click when dropped. What was gummed up or not working right seems to have gone away, I ran all his mags(4) throught it tonight, just pulled up to the range and did a fast fire dump into the back stop. no issues. If this gun was older or had more rounds through it I would suspect a worn spring or something. Think it was just crud.
Ammo ? who knows grabbed a handful out of a ammo can with unknown types of 22lr

I did a few hundred rounds yesterday with four different types of ammo (yellojacket, cci standard velocity non-jacketed ball, super x jhp, cci stingers) after having not cleaned the gun (several hundred rounds worth of buildup) just to see the tolerances. I had one FTFeed with a cci stinger and one FTF with a super x, which i refired with no problem. i mixed up a few clips with different combinations of ammo and still had no problems.

Did your friend clean his mags? I find that I get a lot of build-up in the mags and in the mag well. I stripped and cleaned the gun from top to bottom last night and oiled all of the moving parts. The only issue I noticed after reassembly was that there was a gritty feel to the mag release which a drop of oil cleared up.

He bought the gun new a while back, the 2 extra mags are from another shooter. Over all the gun and mags look new. The mags where cruddy. The 4 mags made the cleaning dish very dirty. As far as the pistol itself. Besides the kinda waxy gunk on it and in it. It wasnt really dirty. I think he has been bathing the pistol in WD40.

The first time I took my P22 out, I had 2 FTF's out of 200 rounds. I then gave it a good cleaning and took it out the following week - no problems. I did buy the gun (hardly) used and did not clean it prior to taking it to the range the first time.

I've only fired Mini Mags through it as recommended by the dealer for the first 500 rounds or so.

exactly what my issue was, and exactly how i solved it. I overoiled mine on friday then went shooting saturday, just to see if that would be an issue. I have been testing the tolerances of the gun lately. I had a failure to feed right off the bat, in the first mag. I had one FTfire with a winchester target round, and it ejected as soon as i cleared it. I rotated the round and tried to fire it, but it still didn't ignite, which leads me to believe it was the ammo, not the gun. It is the only FTFire i've had in a few thousand rounds.
