Thinking of joining Hanson R&G but want to check out. Any members out there that can tell me best time to go, or show me around? Gate has a card key reader for members only. Anytime OK, whatever works. Let me know or advise best times to go there. Belong to Old Colony, but they've shut down the indoor range and are becoming an IDPA/Shotgun club, it seems.
Thanks
Hanson for the most part is a good club. I am a member at both Hanson and Pembroke.
Pembroke by far is a more active club. They shut down the indoor range because it's old as sin. Ventilation was poor. The entire downstairs was awash with lead and fouling from pistols.
Pembroke just spent I believe 15k completely tearing out all the insulation and cleaning the range.
Yes it sucks but most indoor ranges in mass are old and out dated.
Hanson indoor range is due for a update/overhaul also. So don't be surprised if they close down their indoor range soon also.
Hanson is open to public for Sunday breakfast good time to go Down and get membership info.
The breakfast is not as good as Pembroke.
Other open gate events @ Hanson
CMP 1st sat 8am and 3rd Sun 12pm every month. It's a cmp shoot not a match.
Monday night pistol league
Archery- forget what night
Jr rifle I believe is Wednesday night's 6pm
Trap runs sundays and Wednesday night.
There is a steel shoot on Sundays , well until football starts.
I have not been to the indoor range in a few years. It's pretty dark (for my eyes anyway) it's always empty also which I like when I do go.
Clubs are not going to survive unless there is some deep pocket members so clubs need to attract new members.
Pembroke IDPA has been a success has it not? Pembroke also has, been a,shotgun club for a,long time.
What I like about Pembroke is I can usually shoot all the disciplines in one day.
Can shoot a rifle match in the morning , round of trap and sporting clays and if planned right I can get in on some black powder fun.
I'm a member at both because they both offer me something....It can be very hard to get in on the skeet fields and sometimes trap as you can sign up for many rounds up front vs Hanson new comers get to sign up before previously shot folks.
Also Hanson tends to be less busy at the rifle range.
