So I am going to refinish the wood on this wasr and am trying to get the stock off. I have the two rear screws out and am trying to use screwedriver leverage to pry it out. Two screwdrivers have already been broken [angry] Anyone know of a better way? Maybe taking the receiver apart and tapping it out?

I had luck with this method. On a carpet or a rolled up towel placed on floor, hold the reciever and slap the stock down so the side of it hits the towel or carpet. You want to be giving it so good raps. Does not require an over hand swing i anything, but give it five or ten good whacks per side and repeat.

I tried both suggestions. The punch and hammer I would try, but part of the trigger/lower receiver is in the way. It makes a 180deg tap/punch nearly impossible. I smacked it around a bit as you suggested to try to loosen it, but this thing must have been in a humid store room for years and the wood just expanded like mad.

It's a common problem with every AK.

Try removing the selector/safety lever... it'll give you a little more room to work with.

Keep at it... it'll eventually work its way loose,

Finally! I put it in my vice and banged the hell out of it and used a well made screwdriver into the opening behind the receiver and it finally popped out. I read somewhere that they put the varnish on it and then rammed it in making them glued in there sometimes. Thanks for the tips, guys.
