I replaced the Gew98M slot in my collection. I will be using this for reenacting. This one was two months in the works as the USPS lost my money order/priority payment letter. To add insult to injury, I had to spend $6.25 to get a refund for what THEY lost.
What the markings say (I think):
*started as a Gew98 at Mauser/Obendorf in late 1916 (ff-block)
*crown/M stock proof - 1917 Danzig stock
*upper and lower stock match the action and barrel (3205). Trigger guard, TG screws, follower, and both bands themselves separately (5496). Bolt body, extractor, rear sight base, spring, leaf and slide match as a group (17/1417). Butt plate matches nothing...so it looks like three rifles made into one?
*bolt is a total mismatch
*Wiemar inventory/property stamp of 1920
*K-date rear sight, S/42G sight leaf. Converted to Gew98M ~1936. No depot stamp seen
*MP/8 in Bomb stamp on stock denotes aid/acceptance to Fascist Spain, ~1937
Bore is decent. Hope to shoot it soon.
