Westfield State University student accused of storing loaded gun in on-campus car gets 3 years probation
The case of a former Westfield State University student arrested in March for allegedly storing a loaded large-capacity gun in a truck parked on campus has been continued.
Brendan Tefft, 22, of Oakham, was ordered during his pretrial conference Thursday to serve three years of probation and complete 100 hours of community service, according to court documents. Tefft's case will be revisited and considered for dismissal in May 2018 if he complies with court orders.
Tefft was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon on school grounds and improperly storing a large-capacity firearm. Westfield State University officials confirmed that Tefft withdrew from the college as a result of the incident.
On Feb. 4 at about 10:45 p.m., Westfield State University police officer Michael Hannaford was writing a parking ticket for a brown Ford pickup truck in the school's Lammers Hall parking lot when he noticed a black gun case lying in plan view on the floorboard behind the driver's seat, police reports said.
