I have a COLT MK IV SERIES 80 .380 MUSTANG handgun and I need to have it refurbished for concealed carry. The gun has been sitting in my dad gun case for about 10 years now and has slight surface rust on the magazine. He also told me that the magazine fails to seat itself all the way into the gun so there may be something going on inside of it. Anyone recommend a good shop in the Southeastern Mass area that can go through it and get it going again?

You still have, believe it or not, the option to return it to Colt in West Hartfold. Give them a call.

Otherwise I would take it to Mike LaRocca in Worcester, but there are other good gunsmiths out there locally.

For Southeast area, Greg Derr is your man! Check out his sub-forum here, he's a paid sponsor and superb gunsmith.

My pop bought one brand new and it sat over 10 years before being fired. There were quite a few hiccups in it and as great as a piece as it is, I wouldn't carry it, not without running many rounds of $ carry ammo thru it. It stove pipes often, with Regular ball ammo when I shoot it anyway.

I believe he replaced:
The mag release spring with a full size 1911 Wilson Combat spring he had to cut down just right.
The actual mag release may have needed a bit of filing to get a better bite on the mags as well.
The guide rod (I think the originals are plastic) and recoil spring were replaced.
The trigger is also plastic but was fine (he did replace it for cosmetic purposes tho).

You can also find nice mag extenders to give you a better grip.

I'd say take it to a smith and have him do it up right, maybe get the plastic parts out of there too.

The stainless versions of these sell for 1K easy in great condition. I think I have a pic from a ways back before the tigger replacement, I'll see if I can dig it up...

Wearing the fancy grips.

This. They might even repair it at no charge. I own two Colt Officer's that had issues with the front sights. One fell off the other was loose. I drove them down and dropped them off. I got a card in the mail for each. One of them had a cracked grip panel. The replaced the front sights AND replaced the grips on the one that was cracked. NO Charge! Shipped back to me for free.

I'd try Colt 1st.

Has anyone on here had any recent experience having a handgun refurbished by Colt? I saw a few old posts on other forums about their turnaround time being in the 3-6 month range, but their site says it could take up to 18 months.

I have '68 Detective Special that I was thinking of sending in for a refurb/refinish but 18 months sounds crazy.

Greg Derr!!! He did my Para LDA 45. he does an amazing job.

I've had him work on my Colt 1911, so I know him and his work well enough, plus he's local-ish.

The DS/revolver has a few boogered up screws and other bits that I was hoping Colt might have lying around though. Maybe I'll stop by Greg's and see what he thinks he can do with it. The guy that does his bluing does good work.
