Of the tier 1 manufacturers, who is willing to make their guns compliant for Massachusetts?

I really appreciate all of the info on this forum. Thank you.

I'd prefer to buy off the shelf if I can get a top quality one. If I can't, I'll consider building one.

Top quality is a vague description. Do you define top quality as having all kinds of features? Or as in you want to shoot 1" MOA @ 300yards? Most folks on here would say build it if you are up for the experience and have a little patience. By building your own you can get top quality pieces gradually rather than dropping a lot of money at once.

Thanks. I'll do that if I have to, but would still prefer to buy something that is closer to the end game and tweak it from there if necessary.

Really?
OP, you can get ban compliant Colt and LMT rifles. Four Seasons occasionally gets LMTs in. I also heard good things about Smith and Wesson. Also, if you don't mind buying the upper separately from the lower, your choices increase. BCM makes great quality uppers and you can have a gunsmith make it compliant.

S&W makes an incredible off the shelf AR and they are reasonably priced. I had to get the Sport last year, but I am in the process of building my own AR now.

Do you want to walk into a shop and pick one up and buy it, or would you considering buying one online and having it shipped to your FFL?

If the latter option, there are a lot of companies that make great AR's that they can convert to be MA-compliant before shipping. Noveske, Daniel Defense, Rainier Arms, LaRue Tactical, etc.

I am on my second build right now, mainly because I like building things and making it my own with the exact parts I want.

Is building one more expensive or about the same as off the shelf?

if you shop right you can build cheaper than same top end upper model off the shelf....generally. Shipping charges can kill the savings if you shop several parts all over the place. You cant always beat the prices though.
ex: When i was looking around to build a AR national match service rifle I couldnt touch the price of a complete rifle from RRA A2 National match compliant model....I purchased mine from AR15sales.com he also has LMT and stag. Pete knows his AR stuff and all about the mass BS.
In the end I got a rifle thats RRA claims to be 3/4 moa shipped and transfered for under 1000.00
I built a clone S&W tactical model for about 400.00 less than they where selling 2 years ago?
You need to figure out your budget and end use. to build a base model M4 clone with nothing special its hard to beat off the shelf prices unless you wait and shop parts out and get in on group buys.

Really depends on what you want for a rifle. You can go super budget and find preowned gear and build one for under $600. You can also go out and buy a brand new S&W M&P-15 for around $600-something. My first build was "modest" - used good parts but not over-the-top priced stuff and it came out around $1400~. My next one I am using top-tier stuff and I already did quick math with it going over $2k not including an optic. Just really depends how much you want to spend and what you want.

I Picked up the Sport too - very capable rifle, just missing a couple things like a dust cover for the ejection port & forward assist. It's definitely a start for a build, since its so inexpensive. Picked mine up on tax-free day & got it for around $620.
I've spent more stocking up on ammo.

To be honest its typically more money as you tend to buy fancy stuff [laugh]

My girlfriend's father basically build my exact gun - except his has the forward assist & dust cover. No quad rails - no frills. Including the tools for the build - he definitely spent more.

Delton make winning AR15. You own it, you win the internet.

I'm sticking with the shity brand - Noveske, BCM, Larue, LMT, JP, or LWRC.

Yes really. Funny thing is a lot of the people I see bashing Windham Weaponry rifles have never seen let alone shoot one.
