What Is this Thing? M14 Brass Deflector? Free to who wants it!

Was helping an old timer clear out his shooting stuff. I came across this item. He said he used to shoot matches on the national guard team. He said it was a deflector for the brass off his m14. I am not sure he knew for sure what it went to , but he was telling me it was a great item to have.
If you know what it is and want it, post up.
It is made out of what looks like kydex. It has a spring loaded "button" detent.
Let me know. I hate to toss it if you can use it.
