Sorry I cannot agree with his post. It is not a sign of surrender and it should be done on appropriate occasions. Like tomorrow from sunrise to noon for Memorial Day.
I do think that presidents and governors go WAY overboard on when to bring flags to half mast. Then again Deval and Obama wouldn't understand it anyways.
I do like, however, the flag at half mast during the day of the funeral for a service member KIA. Cops and firemen? No. That's what State and Town flags are for.
The fact that people fly the flag at night unlit is enough to piss me off.
I came back from vacation to find my flagpole, that was flying the American flag at the time, was stolen from my front yard. Who steal's an American flag???
This. I take it off and fold it every night. Along with my Gadsden flag. The fact that people fly the flag at night unlit is enough to piss me off.
Well...before you get all indignant and share your virture...WTF was wrong with you OP? You find a soiled flag, what are you supposed to do with it? Burn it. If you can't turn it over to one of the Veteran's Organizations and they periodically destroy soiled flags THE RIGHT WAY...
Being soiled is not reason to retire a flag. They can be cleaned, you know. A flag is retired when it's unserviceable due to wear or damage, not just because it's dirty.
I bet you learned back in Brownies that it has to be destroyed if it ever touches the ground, too.
No as you recall we both learned that myth when we served back in the same Girl Scout Troop together. I remember you quite well, you were the one with the pretty mouth, and yes you are correct, a momentary slip but then we were Brownies together a very long time ago. When you think about it though, our Patriot Original Poster still didn't do the right thing, but he just had to share 'bout what a great flag waver he is, so the end result is the same.
The main issue here is: Do you feel better now that you have corrected me, are you proud of yourself? Cuz that's what this is really all about, honey.
Take your love for the "Rainbow flag" and go play some where else.
US Americans who care what happends to our flag don't want your opinion. (Even though your allowed to express it)
A dirty flag does not need to be destroyed. "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning"
The flag should be cleaned and mended when necessary.
As for being a great flag waver, why yes I am.

No, but I feel better because you were wrong and had to admit it.
Then you must really dislike me which is in a way very immature. Not that I care, really, but that we are both allies in the same cause. If you cannot see that, or recognize the fact that we might have to work together to achieve a common goal, can be a serious indicator of emotional immaturity or perhaps an issue with core values.
