I am looking to purchase a new SIG and am debating between a P226, P229, and a P239. Generally I will not carry this, but may on occasion. Please let me know your favorite and why? Thank you for your help, Johnny. Note: Probably a .40

Grip them all and figure out what feels best in your hand. Make sure the slide is aligned with your forearm -- the most natural and obvious way to grip the gun will leave you quite cockeyed -- and make sure that once it's properly aligned that you can still reach the trigger comfortably. Also be aware that the P226 (and maybe others as well?) comes in two different trigger lengths.

I have big hands, so I shoot a P226 with a long trigger, but your mileage will likely vary.

All of them. But if I had to take ONE just ONE. Hands down my WGerman 228. While this is NOT a 40, I will say a well placed 9mm can do the job just the same.[smile]

I have shot a P226 in 9mm, a P220 and own a P229 in .357 but would have a hard time picking a favorite out of even just those 3.

My favorite is a Sig P6 (similar to P225). It's my favorite because it is the only Sig I own. [wink]

I really dug the P6 too but unfortunately, I was forced to thin the herd....for the greater good of a 220 [smile].

In all actuality I'd recommend getting a 229 in 40 and then add the 9mm barrel and mags later. If you really wanted, you could expand to the 357 Sig cartridge as well. While its expensive and hard to come by, its a great PD round.

P228, hands down. The P226/9mm, P220/.45 ACP, (both tied at 2nd) and then the P229 (any caliber) for third, and everything else is fourth, and the P232 is dead last in a sewer somewhere because it is chambered in .380 (It's actually an excellent gun, but it is stupidly over-sized and overweight for a .380).

My X-Five would be #1 if it worked properly. I still have yet to get it fixed.

My favorite pistol in my collection is a p226RM in .40 / .357 (I have both barrels) with a set of rosewood grips from an Elite model. The trigger is a bit long (for my stubby fingers) in DA mode, but about perfect in SA.

Also check out the new Sig E2 models with the thinner grips and stock SRT triggers. (Probably hard to find one for sale in MA though.)

Looks like this only without the silly beavertail and inflated sticker price: http://img259.imageshack.us/i/075sv9.jpg/ (Not my picture.)

Mike I couldn't agree with you more. Although I didn't see the 239 anywhere in that list. Anyway, what's up with X5? That thing was a DREAM to shoot!!

Really do wish they'd make that (232) in 9 or make it smaller... I'd rather have a real cartridge in that form-factor (well thin the grips back to the ppk form factor).

Love my 226 9mm, the .357 really is a magnificent beast, but not a range gun for cost and recoil...

Alas, for carry, I go to darker place where guns are all plastic and pass undetected through metal detectors. [laugh]

Rattley old, holster worn, 228. Of course I drool when I see the beautiful two tone wood gripped shiny new Equinoxes and other special high end Sigs ... but my 228 is special to me.

I've only shot a few Sigs and they all shot fine. I like the .40 as a long range plinking round but not as a defensive round. I own a P220. It's more because of the caliber than the gun.

I only own 2. The P6 is what started this Signess and the 220 followed within days. They are both range toys and I love them equally but differently. The P6 fits my hand like a glove. The P220 puts all the bullets in the same hole. I just can't chose one over the other.

My P220 is my absolute favorite handgun that I have right now. I am going to be switching over to carrying that instead of my Glock 29 this summer. ALso, I am in the process of getting a second one with which I will be doing some modding to (10mm perhaps!)

.228 9mm shoots great and has the sweetest trigger. I love my 239 in 9mm which is my carry gun. Not happy with the trigger on my 220.

Would love to get a 226 Navy Edition.
