What kind of AK

You can get wood furniture for a lot of variants...

There are some others too. I like that black laminate stuff you see around.

There are a million threads if you search, but my enthusiasm for talkin' AK's is still limitless at this point...

The Romanian WASR's aren't really "nice" but have a great reputation for reliability. If you buy one research what to look for in one (straight front sight post, etc.). The ones I have been finding in MA have been grossly overpriced, but I haven't looked everywhere.

I have what would probably be considered one step up from a Romanian, a TDI (stamped reciever) Bulgarian. I haven't seen many around but I really like mine so far. The trigger is nice...pretty light but not too light for me. The furniture is garbage but I bought this as a project anyway. I thought that the gun was used when I got it, but now that I see some of the wear developing on the reciever, I think it might have just been some used parts, which I guess the TDI's are infamous for. I can't give you a lot thats substantively better than the WASR's, but it does "seem" like a slightly nicer rifle.

If I had the cash I'd buy that arsenal in the classifieds.

If I really had cash I'd pick up one of those gorgeous polytech's that zero hour has.

I ended up with a blonde beechwood stocked 74 from a group buy on the AK forum. Look around and you can find some really nice pieces, but you will pay for them. If you just want nice wood I would go and consider any AK (including a hand inspected wasr) and buy the wood from ironwood. They have some really nice wood but it is expensive.

If you want to play with something you could always get a wasr, refinish the wood on it yourself and gunkote or cerakote it and have a decent looking AK.
