I am looking to buy a new M4 style AR. I am looking for some input on all the different AR Manufacturers such as Stag Arms and Bushmaster. I am looking for quality (obviously) on top of reliability. I want 5.56. I'm just torn on what manufacturer to go with. I want to spend no more than like $900. I want the detachable carry handle, 16" barrel, collapsable stock, and like I said 5.56mm. Thanks for any feedback.

good luck with that. the market is totally crazy right now and it's not exactly getting better. if you get lucky you could find a rifle in that exact configuration but you will most likely pay a few hundred bucks over $900.

i thought i got a good deal in this market on mine and i still paid over $1000 for my build.

Buy a Bushmaster , you wont be disappointed.. u want something thats built to last and accurate, not a jamomatic like a Colt.

Just another opinion... bought a Colt HBAR new from Fours Seasons in December and it has never jammed. It is built like a tank and shoots brilliantly.

$900 will be tough. If you can bump it to $1k to $1100 you will not have too much trouble finding them. Bushmaster, Colt, Stag, even S&W are all good. I presently don't own a S&W but I have shot a friend of mines with no issues. Fit and finish are good with all of them. You may pay a premium for the Colt name, but they are good rifles. I love mine. It's the lightest of the bunch, but that's only because of the way I have it configured.

You don't mention where you are located, but collapsable stock might be an issue. If you are in MA you are going to have to go with a preban and then they are out of your price range for sure.

I have noticed AR's showing up in stores and staying on the shelves more than a day. Shop around you will find something you like. Stay with the names mentioned and quality and reliability (IMHO) will not be an issue.

You can get into an AR right around the $900 mark.

Chester Arms sells a complete Stag lower with 6-position stock for $310 and the Stag Model 2H Pre-Ban for $530. That puts you at $840, which give you enough extra to buy three Magpul 30-rounders for $20 each.

That's the setup I have.

EDIT: He's sold out like everyone else right now so you'll have to go on his waiting list.

i used to have a bushmaster and it was nothing but trouble, but that was just my experience. I picked up a nice spikes tactical M4 type w/ modular free float railed forend at Zero Hour for $1150. (although when I went to pay they wanted $1800, it's amazing how that eotech and all of those boxes of ammo just yelled out "take me home")

No six-position stocks here in the bosom of liberty unless it's pinned.

Colt, Bravo Company, Noveske, LMT are all excellent top shelf brands.

But far above the very very entry level of $900...

Back in October $900 would buy you a new Bushmaster or Stag easily.

Now that same model is going to cost you $1200 IF you can get it.

On the other hand, prices are now so out of control that you might as well buy new since used isn't saving a whole lot these days.

I have seen more problems with bushmaster guns than any others. I wouldnt touch one. I personally only own Colts and LMT.

How are DPMS Rifles? I was hoping to get the 40% military discount with S&W but they screwed me over. So i will never purchase another S&W Firearm as long as I live. I'm going to post a thread with the story if you're interested in reading how shady they are.
