What the heck is it worth?

Hello All~


With the start of spring and a new weekend shooting season, I opened the gun safe and pushed passed the spiffy new Springfield M-1 Garand, that’s been getting all the attention for the last couple years and rediscovered an old friend in the back. A pre-ban Colt AR15-A2 SPORTER II, purchased back in the mid 80’s, when 223 was a nickel a round and the sight of 7 pnds of black plastic and steel didn’t send terror though the streets. Anyway, I haven’t shot it in years and thought I’d pick up some ammo for it at the Durhan gun show.

long story, short. Every dealer I told what I had, their eyes would light up when I mentioned I might want to trade or sell the AR-15. Being good business men though , not one would venture a guess at the value of the rifle, but they sure as sh! t wanted it.

So my question to you good people, what the heck is a ball park figure for a like new, little used, paper work in order Colt AR-15 Hvy Barrel rifle?

I would say around $1600.. mayby more. But it is a preban and they command a premium these days.

I was looking at one last month on the AR-15 site, It was a brand new in the box Colt Sporter never fired with 2 -30 round & 1-20 round original mags for $1350.00 shipped from Ohio. I just couldnt come up with the funds in time. There's a few others on there around that same price range but being here in the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts I'd say $1600.00 would be a fair price.

Oh lordy~ Don't tell me having the box the rifle came in add values. I just tossed the box out 2 or 3 months ago while clean the storage area!!!

I'm sure its worth at least $1400 easy if not more. To some, having the original box does not matter. For myself I want to have the original box for everything I buy.

I'd say $1500 is the clearing price, that is, post it at that and you'll sell it within 24 hrs. You could probably get $1750 if you hold out.

There is a pre-ban Colt AR-15 for sale (http://northeastshooters.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=60281). He has dropped his price to $1600. So the guidance so far seems about right.

Price sounds right, but M1-A's are going for a pretty penny right now. I am so glad I picked up mine about a year ago.
