What to do with 22 brass?

Recycle it. I save all of my brass and collect it in 5 gallon buckets until full. Then off to a metal recycling place for some cash for more ammo.

I just throw it in a bucket of brass to eventually bring to the scrap yard. People make .223 jackets out of them, I looked into it briefly and the equipment seemed pricey. Also it is possible to reload them but labor intensive and probably not economical.

You'd probably make more money selling brass to reloaders, unless youre just talking about 22lr brass. Seems a shame to bring good cases to the scrap yard.

It sounds like a headache to pick up 22 brass just to recycle it (when you can just throw it in the trash at the range).
Now the important question which I guess most won't want to answer, do I need to keep it locked or a bucket in my basement/garage is fine?

If you get hung up and the LEO are looking for more stuff to tag on. Yes your once fired empty brass will be treated as ammunition along with bullets

As for what to do with it.... I toss my 22lr in the brass bucket at the range as it is cashed in by Jr shooters.
All my other brass is policed and brought home to reload , trade , sell . If you take the effort to pick up your empties they are worth keeping.
I trade or sell anything I don't reload. I used to scrap a lot when I had time. I don't shoot nearly as much as I used to either.
Last assorted bucket I cashed in they place on a screen the dirt goes through they pass a large magnet over the pile and gave 1$lb for the brass that didn't stick the steel got scrap price at something like 4 cents lb. IIRC I had about 53lbs of brass and 2ish pounds of scrap.

Thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU.

All gun club members, please take note.

As the president of one of the three gun clubs I belong to says, "Contrary to what some of you may think, the brass fairy DOES NOT come along and pick up your brass off the range. Yes, even the .22!"

Actually this brass fairy does magically police the brass....just not the .22

No fairies just a few rats(you know who they are the entitled ones who don't even shoot anymore and think all brass is theirs and you know they don't kick anything back to club)..... what I don't understand is why the Jr's. Don't sort the brass and sell it back to the members.
Same with the scrap lead..
Anyhow I gave up on inside workings of the club's.
I pay my dues , help when I can and try to help new shooters.

Every club ask is weird with their lead. Maybe there under contract for disposal, or smelt and sell it on ebay, i dont know..but they wont even sell it to me.

I tried explaining that im allowed to pick up my brass.i know i shot X amount of lead... i just wanted to grab X amount back.
This was and indoor range so it would be a great source for lead.

collect it until you have enough to turn in, give the money to comm 2a, goal, or your favorite charity

The entire indoor scrap lead thing turned into a CF when members figured out the inside deals going on.... part of the reason I gave up at the club workings level...to much BS and back door pocket lining going on and not enough members give a shit.
Basically paying a club members relative to remove the lead under a licensed toxic waste removal specialist... range lead removal is not a toxic waste. Well the cost was pretty hefty and we found out that they where cashing in the lead and keeping all that also.
I used to take lead in small amounts before all the BS. I would scrap all the jackets each year.... often over 100$ and give that to Jr programs.
I also offered to sell the smelted lead at the club and proceeds go to club.
Nope denied....rather spend thousands in removal with no kick back from the scrap than make a few hundred?
I can still pick up bullets off the range...there are plenty just sitting there...
Club politics are worse than our gov.

This is pretty much exactly what i ran into. If it was a simple matter of that money goes to such and such a program i would just pay them... i offered to smelt it all and sell it all if i could keep what i need..thus generating more revenue for the club... but it is all politics... some keep it for themself and sell it off and keep the proceeds(and yes charge to dispose of it than cash it in.)

What really started the entire mess is there was never a bidding process on the job. Went right to board members family member at a high price.
I,have since stepped away from the politics of the club and just shoot.

Do any clubs bring in boy scouts or some other group to go through the out door ranges and pick old brass up? I would think it would be a good fund raiser for them and it would clean up the ranges some too...

I would not go out of my way to pick up 22lr for sole purpose of recycling.
Your already sweeping and picking up yours anyway(hope so ) so why not either give it to club or save it...
It doesn't take much to pick up brass. A brass picking up tool works pretty good. I modified a clam rake with fine mess to skim the sand for bullets and brass...

You can also find these as nut collectors..

A lot of people at my club leave it on the ground. My only guess is that they're hoping a .223 tree will grow there.
