I was thinking that it couldn't be that since there is always a way to release the stock either on the stock itself or you can always reach around to get the hook.

Naw. I'll let the drunk ass Russians be the taste maker for what furniture makes an AK. They certainly seem to like their plastics these days. AK-74M isnt really rocking the wood.
