What's your favorite "Go To" firearm for fun at the range?

What's the purpose of having two-three of the same firearm?

Two is one and one is none. I have doubles of a few things.

Backups for competition guns is a good practice. Otherwise you may end up sitting out of a match that you paid for.

I like backups for critical items.

I shot an H&R handy rifle in 300 blk with an aimpoint on it and a suppressor, stupid fun, we were lobbing subsonic 300blk out to 350 with it.

I have several handguns (9mm EDC, .45 1911, .357 revolver), and several long guns.

This one is fun to shoot. It's my FrankenCarbine. No two parts are from the same company. I love the way it handles and shoots. My other AR is better for benchrest. This one's light and handy. dot sight w/ back up iron sights. flashlight for night use.

The carbines are fun. That's my m44 polish carbine......have that and an m38 soviet. Only difference is the m44 has a folding bayonet the m38 had no bayonet at all.

Like I said I'm down to 2 cans of actual surplus ammo. I've used the commercial stuff but it has nowhere near the same report and muzzle blast that the Russian surplus has.

My M44 is Russian-made .. date stamped to 1945 right on the receiver. I've been pining for an M38 for a long, long, time but prices are just too high for me. Your statement about surplus vs commercial fodder .. spot on. My surplus stuff is Bulgarian comm-bloc and yup .. it makes a MIGHTY KaBOOOM when touched off.
