What's the difference between mounting the iron site at the end of the barrel or bringing it close to the forend stock? I've seen it done both ways. I plan to use the iron sites for quick target acquisition for home protection in close quarters.

I ordered a mountable iron site for my keltec su16 and I wanted to know the pros and cons. I will be using it with a simple peep site from a rail back by the buttstock.

The idea of putting the front sight at the far end of the barrel is to give the longest sight radius ( the distance between front and rear sights), as this will lead to greater accuracy.

If you want to put it closer, and you get acceptable accuracy, then that's cool.

This. Farther apart = more accurate. Assuming of course you know how to aim.
