Match Sporter H-bar is may call

Also, I have a Match Sporter H-bar 20" if you want to try it or check it out.

I have no experience with the government carbine but I do have an HBAR. I like it and would not part with it.

As a 6520 owner myself I'd rather have the 6520. (Govt Carbine).

Do you guys mind sharing why you prefer one over the other? I know about AR's but not the major differences between the Colt Gov and HBAR models... and am curious. Thanks!

At the very least, the gov't profile barrel is much skinnier than the HBAR. I used to have a Colt HBAR upper, and the barrel was like an inch thick. And the thing was a tack driver.

If I had a choice between the two, I would take the HBAR and use it for parts for an SPR build.

I just like the 6520 because I'm a wuss and the gun is lighter. I think my gun weighs less than 7 pounds. Anything with the ancient HBAR barrel on it is going to be pretty front heavy. Then again with the HBAR you get rifle length gas system, and probably more accuracy, so there's obviously a tradeoff.

For general shooting and competition, I love my HBAR.
If I only could have one, I'd get the HBAR.
If I was expecting to carry it on patrol over a mountain in Afghanistan, or a on-foot SHTF bugout, then I'd be wanting the Gov't Carbine!

I would care more about the lower than the upper. Negatives on the lower include a sear block, the later double pinned sear block, and a screw pin on the front takedown. Wear on the trigger pin holes would be another issue. Given the preban market, the upper receivers are less relevant and can be sold separately. The lower parts are about worthless, apart from the receivers.

The Colts he has may or may not have sear blocks depending on when they were made. My 6520 doesn't have one apparently because it was old enough.

The new SP6920s and 6940s don't have the sear block although they apparently leave a web of metal unmilled to prevent installation of the auto sear - still, better than the sear block. The pins are all standard configuration now, no .170" pins, and I believe the takedown pins are of the push-pin variety.
