Which one would you pick, H&K USP 45 full size, Glock 21, or high end brand 1911?

i have always loved the H&K, and a high end 1911 is good too. My Sig 1911 makes me feel like a better shooter than i am. I suggest you go to Manchester firing line and rent all 3. For the amount you are going to spend with any of them a day at the range will help you figure it out.

Glock 21 or Glock 21 Short Frame if you have small hands. They just work, don't cost that much, and just work.

The USP is a nice gun too, but only if you have hands the size of a gorilla, because that's the only way you're going to keep the muzzle down.

I'm confused by the high end brand 1911 thing, because that could mean a $3500 handgun, which is like a bunch of the other two guns added together. [laugh]

Standard S&W 1911 or Colt Series 70 1911 hands down for me!

I shoot them better than anything else that I own. Both have the short trigger.

Have a USP 45c and it's OK, trigger isn't all that great.

Handled a 21SF and still too big for my hands.

YMMV

Maybe I should say like Kimber for 1911, because you can't really get any of them "NEW" in State of MASS.

I'd never steer someone to a newer Kimber anyways. I have a 2004 anniv edition and it works great, but that's only because I have access to a good smith... and I only paid $600 for the gun. If it wasn't for the deal that fell into my lap I would have passed on it and gotten something else, particularly at the time when Dan Wesson had a lot of models selling under $1200.... easily twice the gun any Kimber was at the time (or now, for that matter).

Not sure of your location, but I have a Glock 21C and a S&W 1911 E series you could try out to compare. Both the Glock and HK require big hands. 1911's are a "everyone shooter"

I have a Kimber, it is sharp looking gun. I have a Remsport frame/slide that Santurri finished for me, it is a good shooter. I have a Glock 21 that is hideous, it is what sits next to my bed.

I have gorilla hands and OWNED a HK USP .45, noticed the OWNED. Never could get use to it, I love the 1911's , cant speak to the Glock never owned one in .45

Coming from someone with not so gorilla sized hands, I will never give up my USP 45 FS. I love the fooking thing. The handling and ergos have never been an issue for me. I shoot it better than my G19. :)

These are all full size .45, and which I would you get and why? Glock 21, H&K USP 45 or some high end brand 1911

Pick for what? Home defense? Competition? Plinking? I assume not carry... Is cost a variable? What are the other variables?

If I had nothing else and had to buy one gun, I'd rather spend $500 on a GLOCK for home defense and spend $1500 on ammo and training, rather than dropping $2k on a pretty 1911.

But if I were going to add a new gun to my collection, I'd take a high end 1911 over a GLOCK any day of the week.

HK fanboys would disagree...

That's what I thought too.... 5 years ago. Then over time, this self-illusion faded.

Then a year or so ago I touched a G21SF, and somewhere in the mix kinda figured out how to shoot a Glock correctly. The HKs' fates were sealed at that point.

The HKs then got sent out to pasture. It took awhile but I am now HK-free.

The only HKs I remotely miss are the P7M8 and the MK23. The former simply because it is a neat gun, and the latter because it's an absurd polymer framed handgun.

Me personally the H&K but that is because I had one at one time and it was my favorite, needed funds and it carried its value so it was sold. I don't have large hands and I shot that thing better then most of the guns I own to this day.

I own an HK 45 tactical and love it. Very accurate. I am an average size guy and have not experienced the grip issues others posted about. I am not a fan of the glocks. I have shot a few kimber 1911's that were very nice.

Not a fan of Glocks either. The only Glock I ever felt at one with shooting was a Glock 21. Maybe the 45 and I have some sorta affinity.

I have a G21 and a pre-1998 Kimber. I would trust my life to both. The G21 kept working even after the extractor broke. The Kimber needs to be reasonably clean, the Glock, whenever I get around to it.

Try to shook all three. Whichever feels better is the one to buy. Then get the other two next month.
