Who Is America? (2018) | First Look | Sacha Baron Cohen SHOWTIME Series

He basically pretended to be an Israeli, convinced pro-gun people (including politicians) they were friendlies, and said over-the-top things about arming children, then had them read silly scripts from a teleprompter. Wanting to go along with someone who was on "their side", they played along.

Israel is a country that is under constant threat of genocidal attack from all sides, and they already take many extreme measures to defend themselves that would never fly in America. While this stuff was just a bit too extreme and should have set off some alarm bells, I'm sure they wouldn't have gone along if this was an American promoting this stuff for America. But in their eyes, who are they to judge Israel for the measures they take under that level of pressure?

That said, Sasha Baron Cohen is a funny guy, and it's hard to say this isn't funny. But that's all it is, it shouldn't be seen as some sort of indictment against conservatives.

Spot on description.

This has nothing to do with Israel. Cohen is British and his stuff is primarily for British audiences. It will be seen by its intended British audience as a total indictment of American firearms insanity.

Cohen takes great advantage of American hospitality and inexperience with satire and his purpose is to ridicule American conservatives while making a buck.

Let's see Cohen make fun of the Islamist pedophile rings, morally bankrupt police, and judges in the UK which place a higher priority on punishing victims for speaking out or fighting back rather than the criminals themselves.

Cohen was posing as an Israeli in the clip. He was telling the people he duped about supposed extreme measures they take in Israel to protect themselves by arming children, and he told them the videos they were making were for Israeli children rather than American ones. That made it a bit more believable and easier to dupe them.

You're right. My earlier statement was too strong. I was trying to point out that Cohen's productions are made for British audiences but the Israeli act was to lower the guard of Americans seeing someone dressing and talking strangely just as you say. :)

Not the first time Van Cleave and the VCDL got shafted by the media.

I'm wondering if this why Cohen picked him to pull that stunt on?

Manipulative Editing Reflects Poorly On Katie Couric, Gun Documentary
Katie Couric and the creator of a documentary on guns are apologizing — to a point — for switching around footage to make it falsely appear that members of a Virginia gun rights organization could not summon an answer to a key question on background checks.

An audiotaped recording taken by one of the participants shows otherwise — they spoke extemporaneously for several minutes.

"That was not a tough question," Philip Van Cleave, president of the Virginia Citizens' Defense League, told NPR. He said he observed the interview in person as it occurred. "That was not a question that our members would not know the answer to. It's kind of like sins of omission."

The documentary, Under the Gun, focuses on issues of gun violence and safety. In April 2015, Couric interviewed members of the league in Washington, D.C., for the film. One of her questions: "If there are no background checks for gun purchasers, how do you prevent felons or terrorists from purchasing a gun?"

In the film, nine seconds of silence ensue as members of the gun rights group are shown looking away or at the floor.

He doesn't have the intellectual or testicular fortitude to fight any of those battles.

The hits keep on coming.
Van Cleave is probably sitting at home with a smile on his face thinking 'Well with this thing out there hopefully they'll forget all about me'

Sacha Baron Cohen’s ‘Who Is America?' shows GOP lawmaker stripping, screaming racist slurs

This week's segment opens with Cohen as Morad telling Spencer to act like a Chinese tourist, complete with a fake accent, in order to take upskirt photos with a selfie stick under an unsuspecting terrorist's burka.

Cohen then tells Spencer to "yell the n-word," watching the lawmaker scream the expletive over a dozen times before admonishing him.

"Are you crazy?" Cohen says. "The 'n-word' is 'noony,' not this word. This word is disgusting."
The segment escalates further when Cohen claims that acting "homo" will ward off terrorists, inspiring Spencer to pull down his pants and run backward towards Cohen, screaming, "America!"

The episode concludes with a post-credits sequence showing Spencer's shocking "Message to Terrorists," in which he addresses "all you (expletive) sand (expletive) over in the Middle East," before pretending to dismember a hooded figure and eating a sausage that resembles the body part.

"We will cut off your (expletive), you understand?" Spencer tells the camera. "We will take your (expletive) and we will shove it in your mouth."
