Who makes a reasonably priced .22lr upper these days?

I've an upper from Model One heavy barrel no flash hider works with both Ciener and Black Dog mags but I can't remember what I paid for it. Then again it depends on what "reasonably priced" is.

I know nothing of the product but this about as cheap as you can find http://store.chiappafirearms.com/pr...fles/m4-conversion-kit/m4-conversion-kit.html

I personally have the Tactical solutions 22 upper

http://www.tacticalsol.com/products...page=flypage.tpl&product_id=28&category_id=12

I purchased mine through gunkings.com they had a weekend sale with 2 mags and free shipping.
The tactical solutions has been flawless. I have a cheap red dot and easily plink the orange range rats on the 100yd burm

Funny I thought spikes "manufactured" their 22uppers ?

I have the same unit, 20 inch fluted barrel, round free floating handguard. flat top upper and no sights; $580 and well worth it.

I tried the TacSol upper ($590) but it wasn't as reliable as the Model One.

I just received my upper from CMMG. I have not had a chance to shake it out but so far my impression is good.

I was going to post about it once I put some rounds down range but my experience thus far has been:

Called the CMMG and they told me 2-3 weeks once order was processed. So I ordered it send them a check had the upper in less than 2 weeks.

I wanted a rifle length free float rail which took a little time due to a lack of understanding of how the .22 uppers were assembled. They installed the rail and removed the un-needed / unwanted gas block and sold me the upper for the 349$ on site price. Who does that? I expected parts in a box and an upper. Quality of the upper looks good.

Customer service was great and patient while I hammered out the details.

If CMMG makes an upper that shoots as well as their customer service I will be very happy.

Don't get a "reasonably priced" upper. Get a GOOD upper! The Nordic NC22 is a great unit, designed from the ground up, not a rehash of the old conversion units.

I am partial to uppers that use the Ciener system as parts will most likely be available. I know people that have bought new designs that worked well only to have the manufacturer fold or cease production of that unit (DPMS for example) leaving their customers screwed.

The strong point of the Nordic upper is, they designed it to use 10-22 extractors.

Model1 sales bolt and barrel, Blackdog mags, everything else is standard AR stuff that I had laying around.

Same here. I found a CMMG 16" 1/16 barrel on sale for $80. Threw it in an upper with the Spikes 22 conversion and a YHM full length handguard I had laying around. I think total build was around $400ish. Accuracy with the CMMG barrel is great. Weight is pretty close to my competition rifle so its a good trainer. Only issue is that I can burn through value packs in a heartbeat. :)

Actually I take it back - this one was a CMMG bolt and barrel kit from Midway. (It's out of stock at the moment.)

I also built a 20" rifle based on the Model1 sales bolt and barrel, but I was not impressed with the quality. The front sight base on the model1 was canted so bad that I literally had to move the windage left as far as it would go to hit paper at 50 feet. Not very accurate at all and I built it to practice offhand for service rifle so it kinda needed to be.

The acog is on the factory mount in the picture, it was replaced with a Larue. The red dot is a Daniel Defense 1 o'clock mounted horizontally

Ok, how about some feedback on those with .22 uppers with iron sights? I'm looking for a accurate .22lr upper to maybe get some skills to try high power, any recommendations? After going to the range yesterday I know I really need lots more trigger time on my AR's

I think a 20" barrel would be nice, as I would like it to feel like my 20" 5.56 upper, but 20" uppers in .22 are not as common

I like the feel of the Tac-Sol, but it's only carbine length, how accurate are they?

The only 20" .22LR barrel I could find was the one from Model1 Sales, but as I mentioned above I was not happy with the quality. (Front sight post WAY canted, questionable barrel.)

If I had to do it over again I would just pucker up and buy the Compass Lake .22LR upper. (I still might.) http://www.compasslake.com/22uppers.htm

I found CMMG has a 20" .22lr AR upper being released soon..... with a BHOA and upgraded stainless bolt its around $420 shipped. I wonder if there any good?

Nordic makes a 20" barrel version. You will need to add a front sight base and a rear clamp on sight. DPMS makes a decent rear, don't bother with BUIS sights if you want to practice seriously for Highpower.

I have a Model 1 upper with a 20 inch bull barrel and free floating handguard. I get 1.25 in five shot groups at 100 yds with Federal bulk bullets, so I'm pretty happy with it. Did you try to rotate your front sight to correct the windage? Since there is no gas port there would be no alignment problem.

I got the stainless bolt because it was what they had in stock. I'm not sure it's worth the extra money, but it is a bit easier to clean.

It's pinned with taper pins. I'd have to mill flats in it and put on a windage-adjustable front sight base if I wanted to rotate it. (Or maybe re-drill the holes for the taper pins, but I'm not set up for that.)
