Not sure if you'd call it a commander, or officer size...

Took my wife to the range the other day. She enjoyed shooting my 1911 with AA .22LR conversion.

She also liked shooting my M&P9c.

But she did NOT like shooting my Sig TTT 1911 loaded with .45ACP.

I'm thinking ahead to IF she enjoys shooting enough, what type gun she might like for her own.

She really liked the ergonomics and 'feel' of the 1911. But would like something a bit smaller and lighter for carry, and in a caliber she can manage. So I'd like to find a 1911 chambered in 9mm, in something smaller than full-size 5".

Anyone got recommendations for such a beast? Under ~$750, please.

Check out the Springfield Armory EMP. No idea if it's allowed in MA, but you should be able to look through the list. Also don't know how much it sells for (no price listed)... Isn't it worth spending the $$ to keep her happy, and shooting??

S&W 3913 You can find a used one for around $450.

You could always build one.

I have a Remsport made 9mm Commander, railed stainless frame, thin grips, ambi safety and extended slide release. It is my girl friends range gun and recoils like a .22.

If you don't mind the triggers, the steel framed Kahrs are worth a look.

Do you have a pic of your girl's Remsport?

All great suggestions. Thanks gents!

Id check out Star's Model BM. They also make a "light" version - BKM I think, or something like that. Not quite a 1911, but sure feels and operates like one - and is a fraction of the price. Trigger can be cleaned up/refined as easily as a 1911.

STI makes a Spartan 3,4 and 5" Might have a hard finding one in MA. You could always have on built. Business end custom makes some real nices

Only issue with that is that the safety is opposite of the 1911. Up is fire down is safe.

That's a de-cocker that also disconnects the trigger. That model is D/A on the first pull and S/A after that. There is an external hammer that sits flush with the rear of the slide in the down position. It can be safely carried with one in the pipe, hammer down, "safety" off.
