Hi all,
I was at a family gathering this weekend and was able to see an old family friend I haven't seen in quite a while. The topic of my job came up and eventually morphed into firearms.
He noted he had a few old rifles that were family heirlooms. He was interested in learning more about them. He took them out of storage to let me take a look
First:
Is a Winchester Model 1892 low 50,xxx serial number which gives it a 1894 manufacture date. It seems to be a trappers carbine. I am going to bring a camera next time to get more info. it is in 38 WCF (38-40) It is in Good shape except for a crack in the muzzle
Second:
An W. R. Schaefer Side by Side shotgun. It seems to be a black powder fired percussion cap shotgun. The barrells are removable from the stock/trigger/hammer assembly. It has a BEAUTIFUL curly maple stock. It is farly plain other wise.
Both firearms have immense family value to him, the 1892 went to the Yukon twice in 1898 and 1899 with his grandfather. And the SXS was another grandfathers.
I am just trying to help him find some information on these two specimens. as he is less than computer savvy. He also has some interest in the ability to get another barrel for the 1982 to make it safely operable, but only if this is a simple matter and not something that would destroy the gun.
Any help or leads to people that can help are much appreciated.
Jon
