Winter project #2 Restored and customized MAK90

Inspired by the Goose's post, I thought I'd show you a Norinco MAK90 "restoration" I just finished.

The black paint on the furniture was stripped and the thumbhole stock hand-carved to make the pistol grip more comfortable. Then the stock and front handguards were refinished. It came out a nice honey color in contrast to the orange shellac color seen on original stocks.

In addition, I added a "stock option," the upper "swiss cheese" handguard/gas tube combination.

I'm in the process of photographing some other guns in my collection, those that are rare in Massachusetts. Stay tuned.

Thanks! When I get a chance, I'll post my Winter project #1.
I bought an old Marlin 70 .22 rimfire for $40 on gunbroker.com and used it to practice various techniques, like pinning cracks in stocks and refinishing. I even glas-bedded the action and free-floated the barrel.
