I came across this amusing video about attempting to get a handgun permit in NYC.

Stossel did this for a story, not to get the permit. If he used his media connections, called in some favors, got someone linked to powerful people to intercede, etc. and not make a public spectacle about it he would have a NYC carry permit. I know they do exist for special people - I've seen 2 in my life, but one doesn't count (retired NYPD cop); the other was an attorney who knows how to playuth the game.

He also presented himself as a "little guy", not a "national figure" like Joyce Brothers, Howard Stern, The Donald (pre-politics), Steve Aerosmith Tyler - all of whom got their NYC special full carry permits.

It's about $20k to get a carry permit in NYC. And even then they grant you the wrong one, so they can take it away.

My late brother in law had a NYC permit, but he was a business owner in Bed-Sty, and, as one of the few whiteys over there, he wrangled one.

I don't remember the details, but it was a PITA, and this was 25+ years ago....
