1911 Build Costs?

My first build cost me under $380.
That ALL the parts and a set of needle files from Harbor freight.
Only tool use on this build was the files one strip of 1000 sandpaper and a screwdriver for the grips :-)

Guess what it work and shoot just fine haha builder on a budget can be done.

Caspian race ready frame, caspian slide, Kart barrel EGW parts

Maybe you're right. I just looked at my last order from Brownells and it was $950 but that had 250 dollars worth of mags and tools I needed to replace/restock.

Add the cost of the frame and slide minus the tools and it's around a grand.

I would like to make a suggestion. Carefully list the mods and accessories you want to add to your pistol to get a finished cost for your project. Then do a thorough search for similar guns from reputable manufacturers and compare the prices. You may find that it is cheaper to buy than build.

PS Spending a lot of time and effort to build a "cheap" 1911 is an exercise in futility; when you finish you will have a POS for your efforts. Is that what you really want?

This is good advice. You never save money by trying to build a decent 1911. With the parts, tools and time invested, I could have bought a Wilson. I decided I want to do this for a living so it makes sense now but if I was just building one for myself, I probably would have just bought one.

We will probably be holding building classes late this year or early next year if you want to build a great 1911 with quality parts and use our tools, space and expertise.

As the internet is full of junk information I come here looking to get an estimate from some of you who have built your own on the cost range for a complete 1911 build.

any recommendations on parts and where to purchase are welcome.

Are you building for a purpose, for fun or to save money?

Many people seem to think that a 1911 is like and AR or glock and you just put the parts together. I'm not lumping you into that group, but it should be said depending on the parts you buy there could be a LOT of fitting that needs experience. If you are building to save money, you probably won't and a better 1911 can be had already put together.
