Has anyone experienced a failure to feed with their 1911's? I have a Sig 1911 XO, and it seems that recently it's had trouble chambering the first round on several magazines. I have tried both my KimPro Tac Mags and the Sig Factory magazines, and both of them produce a problem where the first round in the magazine doesn't angle itself upward properly. When this happens, the first round just smashes into the feed ramp and holds the slide out of battery. It usually that it takes two or three racks of the slide in order to strip the round from the magazine and feed it into the chamber. All of the magazines are supposedly designed to hold 8 rounds, so this is quite peculiar to me.

I was thinking that maybe the feed ramps need polishing, but before I take cloth to metal, I figured I'd ask if anyone else had experienced his problem and had a remedy. Thanks in advance!

One thing you can try quickly if you have another 1911 or a spare mag release. Try a different mag release and at least rule that out. Should take minutes to do. It helped me once.

Every 1911 feed issue I have seen has been a function of or exacerbated by mag issues and lack of lubrication

You state that the first round in a full mag fails to feed. What about the second? Will the gun feed reliably if you load the mags with one less round? I have experienced this problem with several mag/gun combinations and it was caused by excessive spring tension in the fully loaded mag. If this is the case, an easy solution is to cut one or two coils off of the mag spring. I you decide to go this route, buy a few spare mag springs (Wolff is a good source) before you start.

First round, loaded by hand? How are you releasing the slide, slide stop or sling shot? Are you positive you are not rinding the slide, thereby slowing it down? You say 8 round magazines, what happens if you only load 7? Dos the top round then chamber? Have you only tried the Kimber and factory magazines? Are the magazines known good in other 1911s? I've had good luck with Tripps and Checkmates in DW 1911. Tripps makes a rebuild kit for relatively short $$$. What may be interesting is to get a couple and rebuild one of the Kimbers and see if there is any change. If the magazines are brand new, make sure they were actually put together correctly, a spring in backwards puts the follower trying to sit at the wrong angle.
