I was wondering if there is a 22lr conversion kit for Sig Spear LT?

There are a couple of YouTube videos using CMMG AR 22lr conversion kits and some adapters. I reached out to CMMG and the rep that replied was not helpful.

Why not just buy a Tippmann? You can get them used for short money. A dedicated .22 or upper will be way more accurate.

The one good thing I can say about the CMMG .22 conversions is they'll make you really good at malf clearing drills.

got a spear lt. now, f#ck the .223 - that ammo is too expensive.
right?
[rofl2] [rofl2] [rofl2]

do not do it, you will get gas port all chocked on .22lr. get a dedicated build for that, and if it has a gas block - twist it, so it would not get carbon in.

Thanks for the information. I have a Tippman, but was curious if the Sig could shoot 22lr. Apparently, it's not a good idea.

I mean, it easily could if someone made a 22lr BCG for it. Just like normal ARs. But, any of them can be finicky in accuracy. The bore of .223/5.56 is a tiny bit bigger than .22lr and the twist rate is faster than optimal.

Throw the tipman upper on your Spear lower.

I'd get either a 22 upper or a whole gun because as mentioned, the bore dimensions and twist rate are a bit different. It might not make any practical difference, but I wouldn't take the chance.

Really? Haven't had any issues with mine and I only clean it once it jams up from gunk (which is after ~2k rounds). Magazines build up gunk also.

spear got a piston so i think it will have more chances to clog, but, it would be an interesting experiment, if one would agree to do that. :)

i just find it hilarious by itself - to get a $4k crap sig and then plink .22lr out of it. :) but, whatever.

I’ve gone through several iterations of .22lr though a standard AR. Dedicated is the way to go. I owned a Spike’s .22 upper, then a M&P 15-22, then I ended up having a gunsmith use a Stag left handed .22 conversion kit to make me a 4.5” SBR upper. If he’s still in business I’ll have him make me another custom left hand .22 upper.

I found that the hammer springs on a regular 5.56 lower were usually too stiff for the .22 bolt to cycle. If you tuck the legs from the hammer spring under the trigger pin instead of on top it usually was about right. I did this with several setups over the years.

I did buy another M&P 15-22 when I picked up my Spear LT from CGW on 8/1. I was there and they had them in stock for $479.

i sold whole cmmg dedicated upper to somebody here on nes, and a convertor to run it in the ar15 - it worked fine, but accuracy was, well, none, 4 or 5 moa. dedicated upper was better and worked fine with a usual larue trigger lower.

cheap ass bear creek is what i left, and it shoots about 2 moa that i find acceptable. at 50yds it is closer to 1moa, but at a 100 it starts spreading.

My CMMG .22 setup has been pretty flawless. CMMG BCG and barrel. With a Redi-mag adapter to be able to use M&P 15-22 mags with bolt hold open.
