Ok, Im in the market for a mid sized 9mm semi. Looking for $400 price tag, not looking to spend an extra $100+ on a trigger job ( so no M&P ) This will be used as range toy/larger carry to use in place of my bodyguard .380 when situation dictate.

The 2 top guns I have in mind are

1 Ruger SR9c trigger seems ok ( for a MA gun ) and I can use 17 round mags when Im at the range in NH

2 2nd gen Glock 19 lots of accessories available, good trigger already, preban hicaps so I can take them home from NH.

My 2 issues are, I owned a early runger SR9 ( full size ) and in my opinion it was the biggest POS EVER! triggers terrible!

but the glock carries no MFG warranty like the Ruger and will most likely be pretty ugly.

So, What do ya think ( feel free to throw in other recommendations if you feel the need )

EDIT: Ill add that I would like use this while hiking ( to take care of the bears [wink]), so Id like durabilty. I usually carry IWB.

Glock, hands down, assuming it fits your hand and points well for you. If it doesn't, all bets are off.

No lame mag safety, no lame LCI, no lame manual safety. Parts, sights, magazines readily available. Triggers to suit pretty much any taste available. A bunch of armorers in MA (and NH for that matter) available, if you ever need work done and don't want to do it yourself.

The glock for me. Actually the glock will carry a warranty and they are pretty good about taking care of issues if there ever are any.

I don't want to start a sig vs glock but the answer to your question is yes for some reason the Sig is larger in every dimension including cost. Another minus is the barrel is shorter, the line of sight is shorter, and it holds two less rounds.

Also if the M&P fits you don't count it out because if you find it used chances are someone has done the trigger already.

The big thing I was thinking as a "draw back" with the Sig is the DA/DA... You don't see as many DA/SA guns out there as carry guns anymore for that exact reason.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing....
If I found a 19 that cheap, I'd damned well buy it and resell it for market value!

First defense in uxbridge,ma had quite a few that price a couple months ago, about $399 when paying cash, was gonna get one... but I'm sadly broke[sad]

but yeah I vote Glock 19 all the way!!!

Edit: They actually had a 17 or two for similar prices

The DA/SA trigger is not their downfall. It's their horrible ergonomics with the barrel a mile above the hands and the slide lock lever right under your strong hand thumb

FAIL

When I had and carried a Sig 229 DAK, I cut the TAB off the Slide Stop for that exact reason. I would hold the slide stop down, and prevent slide lock with an empty mag. I could still manipulate it to manually lock the slide to the rear with no mag in, as it was intended to do so.

Ok, So Im sure a $399 G19 in Mass is going to be very ugly and beat. So, I think I remember hearing about a Glock Refurbish program. Anyone have any details or comments on this?

You have a few options with refurb. You send it back to glock the will run through it and replace any worn parts. You can also ask for it to be refinished. They will do this for a fee, I think 100 plus shipping both ways. The only issue with this option is it will take several weeks. You can have a glock armorer run through it and change worn springs for about 70 bucks turn around is about a day? You can get Bussiness End Customs (lou) to do the whole thing with a refinished slide for 150.00 and he is a week or two.

Just get the G19 and shoot it. No matter what condition it is in it will function well (of course if nothing is broken). Then maybe you can learn the gun and swap your own internals. Lou will do the slide for 80 or 90 bucks I think.

This Thread helps a lot. I'm hoping to get my LTC in the coming months and I really like the Glock 19. I've tried others such as the SR9, Sig 226, etc. I keep liking the Glock 19. I think my only concern is finding one in MASS. Cost isn't too big of a deal. I was looking to spending about 400-600 bucks and I realize i'm going to over pay for a glock. I like when i'm seeing about refurbing them. I feel like I can't make a mistake with the Glock.
