Does anyone have a conversion kit? Do they use it ? Just thinking it would be cool to strip the top off my Norinco after doing big bore plates at Bob's in Salsbury on Wednesday night and swap it out for a 22 conversion for thursday nights 22 plates . I saw a Ciener conversion kit local and am thinking about it . Give me your ideas please .
Thanx in advance

I've used the Ciener kit on a 1911 and I owned a Kimber kit when I owned a Kimber1911. Both worked OK but got sluggish in the cold weather and neither locked the slide back on an empty magazine. I am now using a Tactical Solutions kit on a custom Colt series 70 and it's better than the others. It cycles faster,it's nearly as accurate as my model 41 and the slide is steel, not aluminum, so the slide locks back when the gun is empty. The down side is the expense. It's about $100.00 more than the others. The others will work. This one works better.

I have one of the Colt 22 conversion kits for my 1911. I really don't like it all that much for serious shooting. I will be back there more often in a week or two and I'll bring it by and let you try it.

I have a Marvel Longslide conversion which is comparable to the TS unit. It has one advantage, the barrel is bolted to the frame and the sights or sight rail are attached to the barrel. This means you can mount a dot scope directly to the barrel; no frame mounts necessary. This unit will shoot with the best of the top end $$ target pistols.

+1 for Tactical Solutions' conversion. I use it on a STI 2011 with a C-More red dot that attaches to the barrel via a picatinny rail. Very accurate and very well made. The magazine is extrememly well designed. Just a real first class piece of equipment.

I use my Kimber conversion on my Team Match for plate shooting all the time. It is 100% reliable (with CCI Mini-Mags). It is so fun to shoot that it sits on my Kimber more often that the standard top end.....

commander size .22 kit

The tactical Solutions uses a 4" heavy barrel so it's close to the size of the commander.Only the rear of the slide moves, like a model 41.You can get the kit with sights, sights and a rail or just a rail. It also comes plain or extended and threaded for a suppressor.

+1 For the Marvel it is by far the most accurate .22 i have and will hold its own against a S&W model 41. Down side its expensive and no bolt hold open but to me it cant be beat.

I use a Ciener kit on a Colt Series 70 1911 and an AA kit on a Glock 17. Both run great and make for excellent practice for short money.

I'm using a Colt Conversion Unit (floating chamber) on an M1911 frame of 1918.
It's very accurate and could do even better with a tuned trigger (not going to happen to this pistol). It's also a funny feeling with the .22 trying to "kick" like a big bore. I was surprised learning that it runs great with .22 SV, no HV needed.

Does any one know if there are commander sized 22lr conversions for 1911s?

I have a Wilson commander and a Wilson .22 commander conversion. They pop up once in a while. My .22 conversion kit still has the original price tag of $169.00 on the case from over 20 years ago.
