7.62x53 or 7.62x54?

7.62x53 vs 7.62x54R

I believe the difference may be in bullet diameter. My 1938 MN has a .312 bore which is fairly standard for Russian made guns. The 53, if Finnish, may have a bore of .308....Probably best to slug your gun to get the bore size. I will reloading IMR 4064, and .311 Seirra 150Gs. Waiting for my die set...Shoot first 30 rounds just recently... this round has some horsepower..have order a Huber trigger and will get an adjustable rear sight (Mojo)...Hope this helps..and double check..

I believe that all the 30 cal. rifles that the Finn's rebarreled do have .308 bores. I have a Ruger 77 in 7.62 x 39 that they made a special run of 1000 for Davidson's.
It has a .308 bore, and shoots mil surp just fine w/ no signs of pressure.
I do use 125g .308 dia. bullets when I reload for it.
My model 44 mikes @ .310 and I have been loading 137g Russian bullet's of that dia. for that, but with the cheap surplus ammo out there, it is hardly worth reloading for it.

They are the same.If it meant anything, it would be overall case length in millimeters.

+1
I always theorized that the designation as "x53" instead of "x54" was so that it could be purchased in countries which had specific bans on "military calibers". I've used both in my Nagants.
