I am looking at researching a new 9mm SA and wanted to get some recommendations... I have fired a Glock and Sig Sauer. I liked both because the handles are a little longer. I have bigger hands so I like the handles that allow my shooting hand to wrap around the handle completely.

I like the feel of both the Glock and Sig because they give me a feeling of control and also of being easy to shoot. I shot a buddy's 9 (forget the model) but it had a shorter handle and was a little off for me. I like the complete wrap of my hand to ensure a better grip/shot. I know I can't get a new Glock but something similar would be nice. I'd like to get a new pistol because I'd know the previous owner [grin]

Any suggestions need to be Mass legal. I would like some recommendations from other owners out there, preferably with more "hand real-estate" to see what you think.

Thanks for your advice!

I have both the Glock 19 and the Sig 228 in 9mm and love both.
I have a xl size hand and I very happy with them.

For very good, IWB concealment, get the Sig P239. For under-the-jacket-style concealment, consider the Sig P229. If this is going to be used for range/HD/OC duty, consider the Sig P226.

Beretta 92 (FS or A1) and SR9 as mentioned are both good options. The Berettas allow for lots of options for preban hi-capacity mags.

My uncle has a Sig 9 but he paid almost $1000 for it and I was hoping for something a little less, at least for starters. Ouch.

Although it does have a nice .22 conversion slide which makes it a nicer deal when you spend the extra $. Ah, if money were no object. [smile]

Didn't you write that you want a 9mm SA? Neither the sig or glock fits that criteria and new Glocks are sold on this forum all the time if you don't mind paying a premium.
As for a 9mm SA I know a couple of people who have SW1911's and love them.

The Beretta can be fired from SA or DA if you want options. And it's big enough for big hands - people's major complaint against it is usually how big it is. Well, after they get done complaining about the slide mounted safety which I never had a problem with. It's not going to break the bank, there are tons of preban mags available and it's a nice, accurate gun (when I'm not shooting it).

Sigs are expensive, but quality. I did shootsome of my friend 226 & 229, the 226 felt great but was way off on target.it might have been that gun as other reviews have been great for it. The 229 elite was awesome, again, it felt great, and the trigger was nice. For something cheaper, not less quality. Find a Ruger or S&W. I heard the Mass S&W m&p's needneed a trigger job. My sr9c is great, plus I heard the mass ones are good. It just sucks you can't get the full size mags.

Only true if you buy NIB from a dealer (that won't break the rules and transfer you something anyway.)

I'd go with the Ruger SR9, I have one and it's great. Good started pistol, light trigger, basically the same thing as a glock on the inside but a lot cheaper.

This. But I'd recommend shooting one first.

The Beretta 92's are like Rush, the New York Yankees, and Miracle Whip. You either love it or you hate it.

You should consider the Walther P99 as well. Very comfortable gun in the hand, multiple backstraps as well. I've had zero issues with mine. Welcome to meet up and try her out if you'd like. I'm in Milford, member at HSA or SRG. There are also some pre-pan 15 rounders floating around for it when you can find them.

Beretta 92 , sig 226/229, walther p99, sw 5906. These are a few that i have owned or shot. All fit my gorilla mits.

I think he means Semi Auto, not Single Action.

Try a 3rd gen S&W double stack. Like the models 5906 or 5943.

Or a 915, if he wants something a little bit less expensive. Any of them should fit his hands fine and they shoot like a dream.

Glock 17.

Plenty of real estate for big paws, reliable, hi-cap mags available for it, lots of aftermarket support for it.

If it wasn't MA, I'd put the M&P, XD and SR9 right with it, but in MA you can't carry any of them with high cap mags.

Try the Beretta 92fs. It fits large hands very well.

I have medium sized hands I guess and the Beretta feels better to hold and aim than any other pistol I've ever fired. There are pre-ban 15 round mags floating around and it's less expensive than pre-ban Glock. I think I'm the only one in this forum that I know of that actually carries a Beretta daily as well. Works for me though.
