9mm suggestions?

Yeah I meant Semi-Auto [grin] I looked at some vids of the Glock 26 too, nice gun but I don't think it is MA legal. Something small and can be carried IWB. Any suggestions on a good IWB holster as well?

There is no such thing as "MA legal". in the context you are using. It may not be able to be sold at retail by a dealer, but that doesn't stop you from buying it from an individual.

I moved to MA in April with a Gen4 G26 already in my possession. I sold it to someone after I got my LTC. He was very happy.

Get a full-sized Smith and Wesson M&P 9. It has adjustable backstraps. Awesome gun (after a trigger job).

This. Apex DCAEK in an M&P9 is a great combination. I have an M&P9c, and have really big hands (and size 13 feet, and ....), and with the large backstrap, it fits in my hand very nicely.

I carry mine in a Crossbreed Supertuck Deluxe IWB holster.

If you are even just a little handy, the Burwell DIY trigger job can give anywhere from an adequate improvement to a massively excellent improvement.

I did mine, I did not make any changes to the striker block plunger because i didn't feel like removing the rear sight, and I ended up with a nice, smooth trigger that breaks at about 5#. Perfect for a defensive handgun. All original springs remain unaltered. No clipping or swapping out for weaker springs. I spent about an hour staring at things getting up the nerve, then about 30 minutes doing the work.

The second one I did took about 30 minutes total. It was a long slide 9mm that was going to be used for IDPA exclusively and I was a bit more aggressive. I got that down to about 4.25#.

I have medium sized hands I guess and the Beretta feels better to hold and aim than any other pistol I've ever fired. There are pre-ban 15 round mags floating around and it's less expensive than pre-ban Glock. I think I'm the only one in this forum that I know of that actually carries a Beretta daily as well. Works for me though.

I use my Beretta as my EDC too. I always carried compact pistols until a few months ago when I switched to my full sized 92fs. After you get used to it you find it isn't much of a problem and I definitely shoot it better than any compact.

I agree. I'm a total wuss with respect to weight, but size doesn't bother me. I will occasionally carry my Glock 34 in an OWB holster. I dont' care about printing. In CT I didnt' care if the gun showed some muzzle beneath the hem of my shirt. In MA, I do it only with longer jackets or shirts. Printing is a non-issue with all the stuff people wear on their belts these days.

Browning Hi Power. Nice double stacked grip.

Glock Glock Glock!!!!

My buddy was a big Sig guy until i let him shoot my G23, after that he couldn't get rid of his Sigs fast enough.

He also let his friend who's never shot a gun before shoot his Sig 225 and his G36 side by side, his friend said "Why do you still have the Sig??". That says alot considering the G36 is a 45 and the Sig is a 9mm, and the Glock probably weighs 1/3 less, not to mention a new shooter with limp wrist.

I got 2 words ...."Bore Axis"

Iv had a glock 19, 17, sig 239, s&w 908s, beretta 92, m&p9c, and now have a sr9c. Iv had issues with the g19(a few double feeds) and the s&w 908 (went fully auto). I would honestly sugest the full size sr9. My buddy just hit 2000 rounds with his. Its a great gun. Very accurate also. Any new s&w, sig, glock, beretta,or ruger will most likly be a good gun. Go to the gun store pick one that feels the best and buy it. Good Luck

I have a Glock 22 and a Sig P-226, and my brother has a Glock 17 which I've shot extensively. All great guns. Whoever said the Sig was way off is only half right. When I got mine I shot consistently high, then someone showed me how to shoot the "European" sights. Now I get much better results. My son shoots it too, and when he's given a choice (like if we're having a plate or flag competition) he always tries to call dibs on the P-226. [wink]

Honestly, though, I have big hands too and I love the feel of all of them. And of my Hi-Power too, though if you're looking for a main or only gun for home defense I would say that's probably not the gun you want. As I told my brother, you can't go wrong with a Glock, and he feels he made the right choice with the G17. They shoot when you want to and not when you don't, and 17 rounds in the mag is a good round number.

That said, I also like my S&W M&P 9 now that Lou at Business End Custom did a superb trigger job on it. It comes with three different grip backs so you can adjust the fit to your hand size. The problem with it that I see is, if you live in MA, you can only get the cripple mags, while there are plenty of pre-ban G17 mags floating around.

I've got a Ruger SR9 and it works well for me. Affordable price too!

Ruger SR9 all the way, it has an adjustable backstrap when flipped out the fit is perfect.
Reliable as anything! I have easy 5k rounds through mine and not one issue.
It is one of only a few guns that fit my monster hands and still has great ergonomics. It is a slimmer double stack than say a glock, but is a longer frame.
Sure the glocks are great (have one) but the handles and ergonomics are brick-like IMO.

The only possible down side IMO is there are no prebans for it, if that is one of your considerations.

Oh and did I mention 3 color choices and don't forget $400 brand new!
Truly a hard one to beat. It gets my vote every day of the week and twice on Sunday!

Get a green one, I have never seen one besides mine, but be warned I am now known as that guy at IDPA with the "green" gun.
