Yes stainless can rust, if it is low grade stainless.

Greg, you have a solid reputation as a gunsmith, and from all accounts you are a real wizard doing M&P trigger jobs, but I would have to tell you that the two stainelss guns that I experienced rust with were S&W revolvers: A Model 64 and a Model 629.

I put mine in vinegar...added olive oil, garlic, salt & pepper. My barrel came out Green, White and Red.
