Looking for some advice on a new longer range (up to 1000yd) rifle. Came across the Bergara HMR Wilderness in 6.5CM for a good price. I know eventually it can be built out to another chassis for competition style shooting but this will primarily be plinking and the occasional hunt.

Anyone have any experience with these rifles or maybe another MFG for longer range shoots?

There are a few threads about Bergaras already but yes, Bergaras are incredible off the shelf rifles. At that price point, you're comparing Bergara with Tikka.

My 6.5CM Bergara goes transonic around 1200 yards so 1000 yards would be no problem. Mine went to Ridgeline's precision class and it excelled at 600 yards without breaking a sweat.

Bergara uses a 700 short action pattern and AICS mags so there's a whole world of compatability out there. I believe Tikka is not 700 SA pattern so compatability is more limited.

HMR wilderness is too heavy for any serious hunting. You'll want a sub 7lbs rifle for that. Many great hunting out there that don't cost that much. I picked up a CVA Cascade and was really surprised by the quality.

Bergara and Tikka - can't go wrong with either.

Fondled a Bergera wilderness .308 and honestly I felt it was lacking in the fit and finish.

I ended up with a Tikka CTR , so i wish I got a longer barrel kinda but unless I drive hours and hours away I ain’t shooting 1k ranges.

I'm not impressed by Bergara factory stocks. I bought their BMP line which came with a precision oriented chassis. I immediately sold mine and replaced it with something aftermarket. I think that's where Bergaras shine due to the 700 SA pattern.

KRG Bravo, spigot mount, Atlas BT65, Vortex Viper PST Gen 2 5-25x, Area 419 Hellfire match brake.

How’s the KRG Bravo chassis to drop in the Bergara action?

Awesome ok. Did you end up selling the Bergara wilderness stock?
I had BMP stock but yeah I sold it. Lots of people out there are looking for factory stocks. Anyone with a 700 SA action would be interested in the HMR stock. Check tacswap.com, reddit GAFS for pricing on it.

Awesome thank you. The exact info I was looking for

From what I've seen they are great rifles and every conversation/review is between Tikka and Bergara. And they go basically head to head.

Bergara has the advantage of having more compatibility with R700 aftermarket stuff, but Tikka seems to be nicer fit and finish straight out of the box.

If you don't plan to mess with it at all, then I always suggest Tikka. Change the trigger spring for $10 and enjoy it as is, and don't waste money with after market stuff for it.

If you think you'll want to upgrade parts slowly, then Bergara has more options.

Wasn’t just the stock but the action as well

Shit a remarms 700 felt better

I have that same setup with MY CTR but with a match pro scope

Yup, my Bergara action came a bit tight and rough around the edges. About 1000 dry pulls and 200 rounds down the barrel and it's buttery smooth now. I know Tikkas are known for their smooth action out of the box but I like to tinker so compatability was more important to me.

There are few clear garbage rifles out there, like recent Remington 700's(post-2010). Otherwise, pretty much every other manufacturer is decent enough to 1000yd. Ruger RPR or American, SA Waypoint and Boundary rifles, CZ 600's: all are good bolt guns. If I were looking at a new bolt gun, I'd go with Tikka or CZ: both have quality feel to it.

Look out for Sako S20s though. EuroOptic was closing them out and I almost bought a 6.5 CM one. Glad I didn't because it was later revealed that a significant problem with the S20 was the tendency for the bolt stop to round off, requiring replacement every 12-18 months. Despite the known problem, Sako did not issue a recall to address it and simply discontinued it.

CZ tanked their rifle lineup and the only CZ bolt action I'd buy is the 457. The 457 is a fantastic platform for rimfire, but that last center fire bolt that I would have bought was the 527

i have an LRP2 bergara, a bit higher end gun, i was able to hit 1000yds target at grossby.
great rifle, i love it, barrel is excellent. if i manage it well it does an inch sized group at a 300yds.

it should be cheaper to buy this one instead of moving other one into a new chassis.

and it seems - i just saw it - to catch up with modern times they made a PRS ready one. hmm. and they have one in 6gt... and i am sick of dasher... hmmmm....

Well, I mean I’m a FFL so I get a little bit better of a deal but I’ll still need another $750 for an optic. I can pick up the Bergara Wilderness for about half of the competition

I've got a 6.5C B-14 HMR, and have had a really good experience with it. The positives, and so far there are only positives:

1. I love the HMR stock. It's rigid and comfortable when shooting from the bench. These stocks regularly sell for $300+ on eBay if you don't like yours. If you decide to sell it, keep me in mind because I want to pick up a .223 Ridge SP and turn it into an mini HMR.
2. Rail was included.
3. Extended bolt knob included.
4. The action on mine is as smooth as my Tikka T3x. Bolt lift requires much less effort than other rifles - with the exception of the Tikka. Feeding is so smooth, it's sometimes tough to feel it even picking up a round.
5. The barrel is a heavier profile than many hunting rifles, including the T3x.
6. Great accuracy! With decent ammo or handloads, this thing can shoot! Bergara promises 1 MOA and I'd say mine is closer to .6MOA if I do my part.
7. The mag seating is as smooth as the action. The AICS mags just lock into place with no effort.
8. The only issue I've had is the rail had the wrong sized screws when I bought it. (They were for the Premier Pro version.) I called Bergara and they sent me an entire new rail with hardware rather than just updating the screws. I like that kind of service.

I love my Tikka, but for the money, the HMR comes from the factory with a lot of features that I'd have to add on anyway.

Only downsides of CZ ... ZERO after market.

I have one, great action, very accurate. But I have been waiting for them to release a chassis for like 2 years now.

CZ Rifles (not 457) support = sh*t.

TIKKA > CZ

My Bergara 6.5 CM rifle, LRP Elite , Area 419 rail and brake, MDT Folding Stock, it is quite accurate and very well made. Terrible pic but just after getting it set up originally. Was right as Keymod was on it's way out...

yes, true. that is why i like LRP better as the difference will be only in the chassis, and xlr element for me personally is more than adequate features wise.

Remmys are not all garbage, they’re more like hit or miss. I dropped mine into a Bravo chassis, topped it with a Nightforce4-14, dropped an Triggertech in, and with SIG 175s it will shoot .8 MOA . Probably better with FGMM and someone who knows what he’s doing behind it. Factory barrel, action not blueprinted.
