Anyone into Bush craft?

Jeremiah Johnson comes to mind but I remember watching histiry channel and there was this old timer living in the cabin he built with tools he built or some such thing. I think the cabin is a tourist attraction and a historical place.

' "Alone in the Wilderness" is the story of Dick Proenneke living in the Alaska wilderness. '

I have the DVD, excellent way to spend 45 minutes or so. I need to re watch it soon, very inspirational.

that's what I'm talking about. If the SHTF the combination of prepping and old school self relience .....IMHO is where it's at.

Do you roll or do you use the reverse twist?

Usually reverse twist. It's stronger and better for preventing unraveling. Below is a picture of a piute deadfall using evening primrose in a thin reverse twist as the cordage. The stone is about 10 pounds. That piece was about 12" and took 3 or so minutes to make.

you don’t have to boil your pine pitch in water, just heat it up to liquid ... watch out the whole can doesn’t catch fire the stuff is wicked flammable.

True, but boiling reduces the chance of ignition significantly.

Blind fold me, take me to some remote location, and drop me off with only some appropriate clothes, and a pocket knife, and come back in a month............

I'll have a shelter, food, accessories, and be pretty damned comfortable.

I'm always ready to bug out.

Decided to try flint napping. Been wanting to for 20 years or so. Turned the big 50 two weeks ago and said f-it, I have a 18lb box of volcanic stone and some basic tools and some tomes on the subject. Wife thinks I an a nut but that is not new.

After this I move on to blacksmithing lol

VT has nice primitive camping parks where you can bushcraft. most of them are free, no hazzle with firearms or anything. I went last year . 120 L, bivy, tarp , sleeping pad etc. set up camp split wood and build a fire
