The one I am specifically looking at is the 12 gauge, 28 inch, Modified choke model. Dave Canterbury (well known survivalist) is running a series of videos on his YouTube page related to the shotgun, and I really want one considering the price is only $130 or cheaper. I've heard the kick is pretty good, but that is nothing that has ever seemed to bother me a whole lot. Just wondering if you guys own any NEF single shots and what you think of them.

State line gun shop up un mason NH usually has them or the little hole in the wall match shot in Gardner might have one as well.

I have a 28" with the screw in chokes..... I would recommend trying to find one of those (I paid $100 for mine )

I have a couple. They are bare bones utilitarian shotguns. I had the one you are talking about cut down to 22" and threaded for screw in chokes. I use that one for turkey hunting.

I like them. I have seen as cheap as $50 used.

I have a 20ga version, first gun I ever got. Great little gun, I think you'd be pleased. If you're around HSC sometime you're welcome to shoot it.

buy a used 870 for a few dollars more

I already have a Mossberg pump, I just want the NEF because it has a lot of uses, breaks down into one 28 inch piece, and one 15 inch piece with only 1 screw (well, three pieces if you count the foregrip), weighs 5.5lbs, and is simple and reliable, meaning it will be really good for camping and hiking.

I have a 12 ga full choke one I bought used for $75.00. I put a cheap slip on recoil pad on it and it's great. I also have H&R single shot 22 and 357 rifles that I love. Great fun.

I used to have one. It didn't kick any more or less than any other 12. The sling stud on the fore grip is in a terrible spot and should be removed to shoot it comfortably. I bought it new for $100 at KTP.

I wouldn't mind a 20 ga for deer or .410 for squirrel and rabbit. Might be nicer than lugging the 870 around, especially if one can be found used at some of the above prices.

I have an 18" that's a blast with 3" slugs! What a kick! Mine shoots HIGH at 100 yds, about a foot high. Wonder if I'm using the sights wrong?

SINGLE SHOT

There is one at the Manchester gunshow along the window wall for $100

Not sure of the choke, most came with full choke

DOWNWIND

I got one of each 1n 12,20, and 410. Bought them year's ago, nice little guns. I got one of the rifles in 22-250 and it is pretty accurate.

I'm gonna get mine from Dicks Sporting Goods. I already have $55 there in giftcards and I figured I'd get rid of them.

How much are they asking for one at Dick's?

You know, these are nice guns. If they only did like 8% more to finish them (polish off burrs, etc.), they would be 40% nicer. Think of them as a "Ruger #1, Lite".

I dont own one, but I have used them. Simple, tough and reliable. I know a dealer that has a 10 ga for sale. not sure the choke, bbl length or price though.

You guys think all be able to handle it? I'm 15, 5'8", 125lbs. I know you guys are all saying it isn't too bad, but maybe didn't realize I'm only 15. Other forums said if I just use cheapo birdshot at the range I'll be fine, and that if I use something more powerful when hunting, when you go to squeeze the trigger the last thing on your mind will be the level of recoil.

Thanks for the response Palladin. I will probably be getting one soon, I am going to Dicks tomorrow, and if they don't have one, I'm probably gonna lay down the money for one, and have it by next weekend. I also like the fact I can get extra barrels for it for about $75. 18.5inch barrel would be mighty handy for hiking, hunting, and camping.

Yup, they are great $89 guns that you can have alot of fun with, and legitimately kill anything on the continent if you needed to.

Youll be fine with it. If th recoil is a little much the frst time, take off what ever pad or plate it has on the stock and slip a limbsaved on it. Have you ever shot a 12 ga pump before? Not much diffrent. The one I used must have been when I was around 15 or 16...wasnt too bad. You can always get a 20 ga, then have a 12ga barrel fitted to it later. (Double check the company website, but Im pretty sure any shotty barrel can be fitted to any shotty receiver)

There we go... looks like $55.

Yup I've shot a 12 gauge pump. I really don't like the idea of putting a pad on it. The video series on YouTube I was originally referring to is called "The 21st Century Longhunter" and I feel like a recoil pad kinda takes away from the look they are going for in the series.
